Clarification on FAFSA

I graduate high school in May 2010. I plan on going to college September 2010.

I should start my FAFSA January 1st 2010 right?

Sorry for dumb question, just clarifying.

Yes - for the 2010-2011 school year you need to complete the 2010-2011 FAFSA which is not available until January 1st.

swimcatsmom is right.

But I would encourage you, if you have not already done so, to at least run some preliminary numbers to get an estimate of your EFC so you and your parents are not completely surprised in January – when it’s usually too late to apply to schools that could be financial safeties for you. There are a number of easy-to-use on-line EFC calculators available.

do not use finaid.org because it doesn’t have the latest tables.
the tables/formula/etc will be slightly diff for next year, but best to use the most recent ones out there.
