Ok, so I'm still kind of confused.
With the ACT, you don't have to send in any score whatsoever to any college if you don't like the score, right? When people say just send in your highest score, does that mean that if you only take the ACT once, it will be automatically sent to colleges? If not, then there's no harm in taking it just to see what happens right? Even if you got a bad score on the only test you take, you don't have to send it in at all?

Lastly, when registering, there was a checkbox for sending scores to your high school. If it's checked, then it will appear on the high school transcript, which will then be seen by colleges and universities? So I'm supposed to uncheck it right? If so, then how will I know what score I received?

You will know your scores because you are sent a copy of your scores.

When you sign up for the ACT you have the option of listing up to 4 colleges for no extra cost - your scores are sent to those colleges. If you do not list any colleges your score is not sent to any colleges. When you decide you want to send a score to a college you can choose to send the score from a particular test date to a college for $8. Each date and each college will cost $8. Only that score from that date will be sent (unlike the SAT which will send all the scores for all the SATs you have taken).

You do not have to send any score to anyone unless you choose to.
