Hey guys! Some Clark decision letters have been mailed out, so let's get a thread started on it. I didn't know they were coming out so soon; how many of you got them? I got accepted (yay!) and they're giving me a shot at the Presidential Scholarship (yay again!). Did anyone else get their letters yet?

Congrats! Not yet in CT, that is early! Maybe the scholarships go out early, I remember during my son's interview they said they have special luncheons, etc. for them and they were well before late March when most heard. Keeping fingers crossed we hear soon. Can I safely assume that is where you are going or are you still deciding? Did you apply to a lot of colleges?

I applied to 14 colleges, and this is only the second one that I've heard back from. So I'm waiting awhile to make my decision. I can't go to the Presidential Scholars Day though; I can't fly across the country in only two weeks.

Did anyone else get their letters yet?

Pres. Scholars Day didn't seem all that different from spending a normal Open House day and some time in classrooms and the cafe.

:) I encourage all of you guys to visit Clark the weekend (I believe) of April 22 if you get the chance, which is Open House day. There's suppose to be this wicked Cultural Bazaar going on with students from the consortium and community.

I didnt get any letters in the mail but I got an email inviting me to Presidential Scholars day and also saying I would get a hardcopy letter later in the week.

hey!!
Yeah i just got accepted yesterday..and i'm "eligible" for the pres scholarship!! yayy
how many people who are eligible actually get the scholarship??
the email seemed incredibly ambiguous to me

Calz88, I think they mean if you decide to go there, it's yours. It's the same with the achievement award.I've known a few people that got one or the other which is very nice.

i applied, i know i wasnt eligible for that, but i really really really really want to get in. i applied for the making a difference scholarship, didn't get it. i had a 1950 on my sats, pretty good ECs... and i love clark. hope i get in.

Yeah I just got accepted to clark today... I'm going to Emory however...my dad works there and made me apply: I was eligable for the traina scholarship

^^ you already found out you got into Emory?? congrats!

good luck to everybody else applying!

Congrats guys!!

I heard Clark has gotten tougher to get into.

I hope to see you guys on campus next year!! I'm a 2nd semester freshman, and I LOVE it here. :) :)

Anyone find out for RD yet? The varification letter Clark sent me said they are just starting to read apps now... doesn't that seem a little late?

Last year, students around my area started hearing about the last week of March. I know they are working OT there preparing the letters, etc. One of the admission officers said weekends are the norm now.I didn't get any letter stating what you said, but I'm sure they must be beyond the initial screenings.

when do we find out RD decisions?? can we check online?

nah you can't check online. every school in the country has to send u the decisions before april 15 so thats all I know. In the varification letter they sent me they said that they were just STARTING deliberations in march so there is no way they could be finished already. Why they didn't start earlier is a mystery to me... i mean the due date was jan 1.

linnea, i think we've applied to all the same schools. wheaton, skidmore, clark? tehehe.

haha! i've found that SO much on CC. there are so many people exactly like me. everyone is looking for a good, small, liberal arts school in close vicinity to home! haha.

We've just become interested in Clark. Can anyone share what are some highlights of the school? Does anyone know just how many of the scholarships listed on the website are actually given? Thanks.

Bluejay, I have read many nice things about Clark (Newsweek/Kaplan magazine did a nice feature on their research)and talked to students there.(old and new)It's a mixed bag, but the things that keep repeating is that the one thing you can be guaranteed, is contact with your professors. Almost every professor has a PhD, they all do research, and although there are graduate departments, the undergrads get a chance to fully participate in high-level research. It's very strong in Psychology, Geography and History. They have a 5th year free program for many majors (not psych) that you can apply for if you meet the gpa requirements. I met quite a few graduates in talking about colleges this year that felt that got a great education there. The students seemed on a few visits to be very friendly and relaxed, a wide range of interests, etc.
If you haven't already, you should take a look at Loren Pope's book, which I think is called "Schools that Make a Difference," where he speaks about Clark.
The scholarships are limited in types, but they do give many out. They are known to be generous and although we haven't received our package yet, we were guaranteed a certain amount based on gpa/sat scores. Some you have to apply for, some you don't.
I think Clark is one of those colleges you really have to visit. The neighborhood is very urban, but I didn't feel uncomfortable there. It's not for everyone though and it helped my son to spend the day one fall.

Thanks for the reply! We do have a visit scheduled and we'll probably come back with more questions. Anyone else have any thoughts?
