Clark Decision 2006

Here's some additional info to the good summary given by Debruns.

S just got admitted with a generous package and Clark is high on his list. Clark just added some exciting new majors and programs, one of which - Environmental Science - is right up his alley. There is a new bioscience center, newly renovated math, CS and physics facilities, and construction beginning on a new residence hall this spring. In addition to outstanding psych and geography depts, biology and gov/int'l relations are also considered strong. They have an interesting core called Perspectives on Learning which our tour guide spoke highly of and greatly appealed to my S. Although our summer tour gave us a limited view, we did get a feel for cultural diversity on campus and certainly in the area.

Clark belongs to the Worcester Consortium where students can take courses at one of several colleges in the area. However, I don't think there is much interaction between them. It is not like a college town. Boston is not far, about 40 min, but I don't know how often or easy it is for students to go there without a car.

Clark is in a more gritty area of the city so it does not appeal to everybody. One positive is that there are many opportunities for service work and internships since the college maintains close ties with the city government and community organizations. I agree with Debruns that you really do need to visit to determine if the setting is right for you. We are revisiting in April and may have some more impressions to report then.

I haven't heard yet...is that bad??

Blizzard, did your son get his notice this week or earlier? They told me they were going out soon a few days ago.
I hope your visit goes well. My son went without students and with, and he liked it both times. He really felt comfortable when he went for the day a month or so ago. Everyone was friendly and he said the "fit" he felt there wasn't duplicated more than 2-3 times in his other college visits. I don't know if he will ultimately end up going there, but I know it will be well thought of by him.

The notice just came yesterday and we live in Mass. so I think they are just starting to be sent out. S is looking forward to visiting again with school in session.

i'm international..and just got accepted through email!

still waiting... i really want to get in!!!

i am int'l also btw and i havent recieved email

california, we'll see. i was wrapped up in neu until today.
i really like clark but i would need some merit money to be able to go. does everyone who gets at least a 27 on the act really get 8k or is it only a select few?

I thought I was told that by the students and staff (re the 8,000)but I'm not positive. We are still waiting in CT and it figures we heard from everyone but Clark and that package will help my son decide which school.

i go to a very small alternative boarding school that has neither gpa nor class rank so i hope i still qualify for that money desptite not having 2/3 of the criterea. if it makes any difference i got the best act score among my whopping graduating class of six. i'm sure they'll really go for that.

i got in with a 30,000 scholarship!!!!!!!!!

so ecxited right now

first school to Accept me

holy eff, thats amazing, how'd you pull that off?

i got rejected. wow. didn't see that coming.

I got 28,000 dollars a year in scholarships, I won't be attending though

what were all your stats? i had 1300 SATs, is there a scholarship you get if your scores are something for that automatically?

i love clark, it's my first choice, but they didn't really give me much money. i've been asking around to see about getting more.

Radiocure, this was on their site:

We haven't received anything yet, so I can't say what we got, but I was hoping my son was offered one of them. He had a higher GPA 3.75, but lower than 1300 SAT, and I doubt they'll "gear up". : )

Rejected. Really, really suprised. I had a great interview and my stats were maybe not on the high end but maybe more middle-low.

This is the 5th rejection I have recieved. I'm starting to go into despair about college. If I see another small envelope in the mail I'll get sick.

Oh, dear. Clark really has become more competitive. I wish you all luck!!

I'd like to just remind you guys that Clark's had a tuition increase this year. Ugh.

But I lovelove this school and I'd like to spout off more about the school, but I have to desperately finish this essay. (Procrastinates.) But if anyone has questions or whatnot, please ask me!

I'm in California and I haven't heard yet... anyone else?

i got into clark!
Stats:
Sat: 1280/1600
Sat2: math - 630
bio - 620
gpa: 3.3/4.0, 3.8/5.0
EC's: a ton of theatre, president of Jewish student Union, and a buuuuunch of random other stuff
Essay: great
Recs: greattttt
Hook: no idea.

i got into brandeis also, though, so i think im going there. CONGRATZ TO ALL OF YOU THOUGH!

yeah but there was one for acts over 27. is there something comprable to that for SATs?

I can't see my last post, so sorry if this repeats. My son got his acceptance today, but the lowest amount in aid so far, so Clark had to get bumped down. Too bad, because he really liked it and gave it more attention than a lot of other colleges. Luckily, he found another "fit" this fall and got a generous scholarship, but it would of been nice to have Clark too. He did get the 8,000 scholarship as expected and a student loan, but that's it. Conn College (they have been attentive) and H.Cross have to send theirs, but a final decision is close. It will feel good to have the closure and move on.
