From the app:
Applications MUST be received by March 4, 2011

^ yikes, thanks for the info - i missed that small (giant) detail

do they do phone interviews or? and how do you know you made the cut?

Wait, iceui2-- we had a waitlist?! I never knew this…

@NspiredOne: They just call you/email you with the news. No interviews.

I remember sending mine by overnight mail the night before the deadline… good times. But even if it’s a few days late, just email Ms. Durham with an explanation - it usually isn’t penalized. One Clarkie sent his off 6 days late and still got accepted.

Well I don’t think it’s called a waitlist, but I think they make the cut to the final 15, call the first 12, and then the last 3 depending on how many people decline the acceptance.

I sent mine in the day before it was due. You all will be fine. Breathe.

And oh, okay. Still didn’t know that. Learn a new thing every day :)

lol my collegeconfidential account needs some name changing. to natalieportmanftw lol
any one know how?

Breathing isn’t working.

To save myself from writing an explanation about how I procrastinated and didn’t start writing my essay until now (well, haven’t started, yet …), I’ll pay US$18.30 for an express mail flat rate envelope and hope the guarantee that it arrives in Lubbock Thursday at noon, is true.

Six days late is … distressing. Unless there is a legitimate excuse (injury, death of a close relative, etc.), I think that reflects poorly on oneself.

I have run out of time… mostly my problem is that I haven’t talked to my teachers for recommendations. I have great essays, but I don’t think there is anyway I can get my app in on time.

Better late than never, in my book. The fact that that person was still accepted speaks volumes about them and their application, in my book.

Don’t judge and don’t worry. Relax. The Clark People are quite understanding.

haha did u guys know that natalie portman was a semifinalist in intel when she was a teen??? i found that out today. learn a new thing everyday, like gregariously said.

swirlz: haha same here… new york times yeeeaaahhh (:
but uh yeah i’m pretty sure she’s actually perfect. it’s ridiculous. she went to harvard, too.
haha but meganfoxftw, to answer your question, i don’t know… natalie portman trumps megan fox any day in my book, though.

@sMITten,
My teachers weren’t very happy that I only asked them last Friday.

@leahmarie, [I don’t know about that …](http://www.wolfgnards.com/media/blogs/photos/celebrities/portman-v-fox.jpg) lol.

omg are you serious?!

OK, I just spent an hour writing about my research interests … it’s like a 100-word blurb for each of my three selected interests. However, I didn’t really get uber-specific–I described a specific topic for each field in that I wanted to research, but I didn’t actually detail an experiment setup or anything, simply because I don’t really know how to set one up for my topics yet. Did any CCers get really exact and write out a possible procedure and whatnot? I got everything in the space they gave on half of the Part B page, but several people were writing earlier about having two pages of research interests alone, and the request to be specific is rather vague. Any thoughts?

Ah, another late-night scramble for me, I guess.

Hey guys, I sent out my application regular mail this morning at the post office. I honestly didn’t spend that much time on my essays (combined maybe 2-3 hours), some of which was copied from my SIMR essays.

For the explanation of interests, I wrote a paragraph about both areas I picked (Biological Sciences and Food & Nutrition) describing why I’m interested in the area and hypothetical experiments.

For the personal statement, I explained three words that describe me in three paragraphs, talked about my goals, and then summed it up with a nice conclusion.

Clark Scholars sounds like an amazing experience, but I’m having my doubts about being accepted considering my essays were not top-notch - then again, one of the qualities I explained in my personal statement was my perfectionism hah :)

Oh, and Natalie Portman beats Megan Fox any day. Harvard degree + insanely pretty + talented actress FTW.

I applied to this program!

we have too much in common karaokemachine. natalie portman does beat megan fox anyday (despite my name), and i also applied to SIMR. although i didn’t recycle my essays…

the first part of my clark essay was a big gamble, we’ll see if it pays off.
