Just emailing Ms. Durham is fine. She usually replies in a day or two and CC’s Dr. San Fran.

wow, 5%, wooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww. well, keeping my fingers crossed and my hopes high, even though it is probably for nada.

Man, I always get Durham mixed up with San Fran. I keep thinking he’s a her and vice versa.

WHAT HAS THE INTERNET DONE TO US?!

Oh wow, you guys have it so much harder than my year did. Back in '09, the acceptance rate was twice what it is now. I suppose that’s partially my fault, considering the heavy advertising me and the other '09ers did last year. If you get in, you should definitely go. I still talk regularly with some of the Clarkies from my year. Actually, I did another program with him last summer (ISSI), and I’m going to be less than 10 miles from him this year. So excited!

Yeah, better get used to that. For REUs, mostly people apply to 5-10 programs and usually only get into one of them. They’ll understand.

so i emailed ms. durham yesterday updating my new awards, but she hasn’t responded yet. i really hope she is getting my messages… anyone else having any problems with her replying? did anyone get a message back after submitting additional awards?

She’s a busy woman, give her time :)

my counselor found my resume w/ my list of activities in her folder…we suspect that she didn’t mail it w/ the rest of the application. when i explained it to ms. durham, she emailed me the next day “do not send”…this doesn’t sound good. i wonder how much that’s gonna impact me

It could mean they already eliminated you.

Or that they already chose you!

Heh, only a few more weeks till decisions come out.

I think I found out that I got cut for that ACS summer research program; my friend got an email about an interview and I didn’t…oh well…

chaseholl, when i read your post, “it could mean they already eliminated you,” it scared the crap out of me. then i saw ur second line which made me feel a bit better…but still i feel like this isn’t a good situation to be in

apoc314, i was gonna ask you about that! i received the interview email yesterday so at least if i don’t get into clarks, i have a shot at the american cancer society one. sorry about that though…

hey, do you guys think it’ll be too late to send an update next week? i’m anticipating an award (my teacher already told me i got it, actually), so i’d like to wait… but if it’s going to be too close to decision time, i’ll send one now.
also, is it ok if literally none of the things in my update pertain to my chosen subjects of research? haha, i mean, at least it shows that i’ve been doing something the past few months…

leahmarie, you can send it. iceui2 said earlier on that he/she sent an update through early April to Clark.

My bad. But really, it could be good. Or that it’s such a small factor they don’t really need it.

Hm, I got an award last weekend. But it’s not really an important one, so I’m not going to bother sending it :P.

gahh ok wait would it look BAD to send an update on an UN-important award? like, oh i do nothing with my life so this tiny award seems like a big deal to me?
and does anyone have any input on my previous question (is it ok if literally none of the things in my update pertain to my chosen subjects of research)?

iceui2, do you know if a lot of people who got in last year sent updates? were your updates big/important things?

Will sending updates just annoy them? I have a couple I could send (and I’ll be getting my scores back for the SAT), but I don’t want it to hurt me.

Send it. Just do it.

No, I’ll probably send my SAT scores, too … if they don’t suck.

Stanford results came out today. 8 of us applied, 6 of us got in :). I got waitlisted QQ.

Does anyone know when the decisions for Clark are released? I’m anxious to find out.

Also, what is Clark looking for most importantly? I know RSI is very intent on people having prior research experience and well written essays.

Mid-April. So just a couple more weeks … I think the later the better, because they start sending rejection notices early. If you get accepted, you get a phone call (at least, that was what it was last year, IIRC).

They want passion and smarts. You don’t need prior experience, apparently, but you do need to be fairly intelligent, motivated, and interested in your research field. So essays will be very important here.
