T0NX!
I am definitely applying now :]

a question on Part B: if I am interested in biomedical engineering, where would that fit in? cheme or meche?

^either - it depends on what specific aspects of BME you want to study. Again, you want to be very detailed in your application, so be sure to do some background research.

Also, we have 4 Intel STS semifinalists! Most of the others either already graduated or had a non-science project.

@gregariously and @iceui2:
Thank you! That really helped! I think I want to apply in Mechanical Engineering and Classical/Romance Languages, which are completely different, so I wanted to know whether I should balance my humanities/math&science teacher recs. I guess Iāll go with a mix now!

@iceui2: By a ādetailedā application, what do you mean? Iāve never done research before, and Iām not really sure what being a mechanical engineer entails, which is why I want to do this program- to learn more about these subject. I emailed Ms Durham and she said you donāt need to have any prior experienceā¦?

What are the SAT score cutoffs? I have a 2200 SAT. Enough? Im retaking in January anyways for a scholarshipā¦so what score should i aim for?

Btw, Im a senior.

@nocturnalduck: Imagine yourself doing research on any topic you want. What would you do? You definitely donāt need prior experience (I didnāt), but you should be able to write a blurb where you tackle a hypothetical project. For example, if you want to do BME research for microfluidics, write about the experiments you can do and what results you hope to find. So thatās what I mean by āgoing into detailā.

@bubbabubba: there are no cutoffs. We had people with lower scores. But if you can raise it in January, it can definitely help.

Hmm, Iāll take another look at this program! I had planned on applying next rather than this year. To former Clarkās Scholars, which aspects of the application do you feel most heavily affected admission?

And I honestly am more interested in humanities-related fields, do they prefer math/science research or is that simply reflective of applicant interests?

iceui2 congrats!!! 1/3 not badā¦ thatās like comparable to Simons but then i hear itās very antisocial there lol.

Are admissions on a rolling basis for Clarks? Or can I get my application in when it is due without being penalized for not being the early bird?

For Part B of the evaluation form, there is not much space. Should the teachers attach a separate page as a letter of recommendation?

Does previous research experience help the admission?

Thanks.

Hi! I see that the application asks for three teacher evaluations. Does anybody know if one of those teacher evaluations can be from a research advisor?

Probably the personal statement. Teacher recs are important as well. However, every aspect of your application should probably be at least decent. It would be helpful to have very high test scores and grades, but as long as they are good and your personal statement is really good, it probably wonāt matter. I wouldnāt put undue emphasis on one single aspect of the application; work on them all and make them as good as you can. In any case, this is pure speculation.

Applicant interest.

Ask them.

If anyone is curious, Ms. Durham says itās fine to have a teacher evaluation come from a research advisor.

for our list of activities, should we include a short description and mention awards if we have any? or do we really justā¦ list?

I have read through the whole thread and looked at the application package more carefully. There are still a lot questions need to be answered.

It requires 3 evaluation forms to be filled out by teachers. Also someone mentioned that a research mentor (if you have one) can provide one. Is this the 4th one? or just one of the three?

The Part B (Remarks) of the evaluation form has very limited space. The version that can be used to save and print has two lines of space and can not be expanded at all. What should we tell teachers about how much text they can write on the form? I saw somewhere that the evaluation form is ONE page. Does this imply that no separate page should be used?

Form B of the application has a text area for descriptions about your two interested research fields. The text field is expandable that means you can put as much text as you want. However, the text may be printed out on extra pages (more than one). Is this allowed? (I am asking because Form C says explicitly that you should limit your essay to ONE page).

Thank you for any answers.

Iām so excited to apply next year!!!

Iām not kidding. I really am.

@momo899 - short description is fine. Yes, donāt forget to mention awards.

@dragonboy - donāt use the print versions. Download the word document and fill it out yourself. Same goes for the teacher recommendations - they should attach their own letter to the evaluation form. And yes, a research mentor can be part of the three recommendations. Iām sure if you want to send a 4th one, thatās fine as well.

Iām not sure when Iām going to make to this application. Iāve just finished the RSI application, need to finish the TASP application, just took the SAT, now doing homework, and then eventually, maybe Iāll make it to the Clark application. Ahhh, too much work, too little time!

The narrative seems very broad - should we focus on anything specific?
