Clark Scholars 2011!

I believe they ask for official transcripts.

For any summer program or really any program that wants a transcript in general, it must be official.

Is it difficult for you to get an official copy?

hey guys, how are you getting them your PSAT/SAT scores? are you printing out the web page from the collegeboard website that shows your scores, or what? i’m just wondering because it says “include copies of all exams taken.” aahhh i’m stressed!!

oh and are you listing any SAT IIs or APs under test scores?
and do you think it’s ok if I jam chemistry, chemical engineering, and bio engineering into a few paragraphs under “academic interests”, or do I need to write separate ones? because they’re pretty interrelated.

What are you all saying for “Current class standing?” Our school doesn’t rank any more, and while I’m sure that my grades are among the top of the 11th grade’s, I can’t see my counselor the next two weeks since they’re not taking appointments (and I feel like I’ve already emailed her enough, for my MITES application). Should I give an estimate or say n/a?

say N/A. that’s what i put. i actually saw my class rank when i went to see my counselor for these summer programs stuff. my school got rid of class rank but it still has the system that ranks everyone. i’m second in my class of 600+ people so i thought putting it down would definitely help my chances. i asked my counselor if i should put it down and she got mad at me and was like “WE DO NOT RANK. PUT N/A.” then she said that there’s no way the program can verify it since it’s not on our transcript so it’s useless. she also said that they’ll probably rank all the applicants according to their standards so it’s not that big of a deal.

@swirlz
Okay, thanks for the input. I’ll do that too.

For the list of school/community activities, can we just attach our resumes? Should we include awards won?

Also, do any previous Clarkies have input on what their areas of research were like? I’m having a tough time narrowing down my choices to 2.

For the applications part B and C, do we have to hand write both essays within that page? I feel that limiting my essays to one page would not be enough space.

Can’t you have more than 2? It says to indicate secondary areaS of interest.

Also, by “describe your interests,” what does it mean? why you’re interested? what, specifically about the field you’re interested in? previous projects you’ve done in the field? UGH why are they so vague?!

erickkwangg, you can type them.

Part C says to limit the essay to that space.

Leahmarie, go from broad to specific. Why you like that field, and any specific project in which you are interested,

@batfan: Sure, you can copy & paste your resume onto the form.

@leahmarie: Just keep it at 2. Remember… the fields are VERY broad, so you can talk about your various interests in that one field. For example, you can talk about your love for bioengineering/biology/chemistry under “biological sciences”. If you get in, you are not limited to those fields. Like I said before, I put “biological sciences” and “mathematics” on my app, but ended up doing a project in chemical engineering.

ummm can u fudge with the margins/font size? also i wrote about very specific topics for my RSI essays, can i just recycle them? i think they are VERY well written.

hey this question is more directed to iceui2: i got rid of the short paragraph under PART C. NARRATIVE so I had more room to write. Is that alright? I feel that my essays are very strong (well don’t we all, but really :P) and I don’t want to cut it down any longer.

when they say “list ECs”, do they mean actually just list, or do they want a short paragraph or something for each activity?

and is it okay just to have a primary field of interest? I have a pretty good idea of exactly what I want to do, and I’m not sure if I can justify secondary areas of interest as strongly.

@NspiredOne & meganfoxftw: I fudged the margins/font size last year and managed to squeeze quite a bit of words in one page. Of course, that was completely unnecessary because some of my fellow Clarkies used essays that barely took up three-quarters of the page. Just make sure that it’s as concise as possible. You don’t want to bore a reader if your essay is uber-long.

@artexius: List them, and maybe provide a sentence of explanation under each one. No need to write paragraphs for each activity. And yes, it’s fine to have just one primary field of interest. Just make sure it’s broad enough so that Clark can find a mentor for you if you are admitted.

does “school and community activities” include extracurriculars like musical instruments?

No harm in listing it as well, right? That’s what I’m doing.

Are you all listing your awards and test grades apart from the SAT/ACT/PSAT (such as SATIIs and APs)?
