@fairyfantasy quick question. do you get to work on your own research project or do you kind of do something based off the professor’s work?
Since about 12 are accepted nation-wide, how likely are any of us going to get in .-.
Very little lol. I heard almost 200 people apply, so I’m definitely not betting on getting in.
Do any past Clark Scholars have advice on how to approach the Narrative Essay? It’s a little intimidating, I’m not sure how to get across who I am, what my career goals are (not even sure welp), and everything clearly and interestingly.
@stuffedicing Both could happen. If you are accepted, Dr. SF will try to find a mentor with similar ongoing projects as the topic you showed interest in your essay.
And no pressure, we actually had almost 400 people applying last year.
Clark Scholars, the other summer programs, and colleges are all kind of crapshots, though, so always try before giving up! I didn’t get into SIMR but still got accepted to Clark Scholars, so anything can happen.
@literatechild Um, I can’t tell you how to write your own narrative but having no particular career goal is no biggie. I wrote about having no particular career goal because of my diverse interests. Also, for brainstorming you can try jotting down on a piece of paper all the things from your past that stand out to you and the different fields you are interested in/love.
@literatechild I wrote an angry-rant kind of essay about how my topic relates to RL. My mentor read it and apparently said I was really cynical … but in a good way? Go figure.
How long does the narrative portion of the application have to be?
Should I even bother applying. I’m an international applicant so I doubt I’ll be able to compete with all the domestic applicants.

You have to be a senior to apply correct?
@randomhouse It doesn’t matter whether you are an international or domestic. At the time I was applying, I was also an international. At Clark Scholars, I met least 2 other internationals.
@brendauo101
Both current juniors and current seniors can apply.
@fairyfantasy
How many juniors got into the program last year?
@hk9928 10/12.
what is RL?
@cypres
I want to apply to this program but I read that you have to be at least 17 by the start of the program. I’m a junior and I won’t turn 17 until September. Any of you guys know if they’re super strict about this requirement?
hi @fairyfantasy ! i’m thinking about applying to this program but since i’m more of a humanities person and not very interested in science/math/medicine/etc, i’m not sure if i could find a topic worth researching the whole summer. what did you choose to study, and how specific was your goal? thanks so much!
oh woops @fairyfantasy just realized you answered this question before. ignore above lol. just wondering though, how many people chose fields in the humanities rather than math/science? like history/lit. i’m not sure if i would fit well into the program haha
@ZealousStudent I’m not sure about this; you should contact Dr.SF directly.
@shadyconcepts There are definitely humanities research avilable. There have been research in history/literature/social sciences before. Don’t worry about “fit”. Choose what you want to research and if the program accepts you then you definitely “fit”.
