Clark Scholars 2015

I’m playin with you guys. Good luck! I’m also not from NZ

wait what the collegeconfidential censored the word “tr0lling” in my comment. seriously?

@stuffedicing‌
Yup, because innocent posters were being called tr0lls.

Does anyone know when we should be hearing back? The wait at this time of year makes me nervous. :frowning:

April ^^

Just confirmed my application is in. Thank God.

Anyone want to share their stats?
Also previous clarkies care to tell us yours as well?

Well, I didn’t make it last year. I applied again this year, so let’s see.

ACT: 36 composite
SAT: 2400
SAT II Math 2: 800
SAT II Chemistry: 800

GPA: 3.96 unweighted, 4.43 weighted

I had 20 extracurriculars total, including Science Olympiad, Model UN, Future Problem Solvers, Key Club. I’ve also volunteered as a tutor and as a camp counselor, and play piano and violin.

@spacelover17, wow that’s really impressive!

I’m a junior applying, I really don’t expect to get in.

ACT: 34 composite (retaking next week though)
PSAT: 231

GPA: 3.9 uw, 4.7 weighted

Science Olympiad, BPA, NHS, Latin Club, volunteering

next to spacelover, looks like I don’t stand a chance =/

Guys there was no space on the app for awards right?

Do you know if they give preference to local area?
Im applying from Houston, TX

Also, I’m probably going to be a USABO semifinalist, do you know if I can revise or update?

@Hotmamanearyou‌ No, they don’t give preference to Houston,TX. Clark Scholars always have 1 Clarkie chosen from Lubbock, Texas every year, though.

**Also, guys, don’t stress about stats. My stats are probably worse than most of you all’s.
To ease your mind, here are the stats I applied with and got accepted with last year(I know, I’m still in shock I got in with that stats):

SAT: 2080 (then I sent Dr. SF with an update of my Jan score, which was 2290)
PSAT: 218
GPA UW: 4.0 W: 13.97/12.0 at that time, which is 4.66?
Math II: 800
AP WH 4

The activities I filled my application with:

  • Student Researcher at The University of Texas at XXXX
  • Teacher Assistant at Dallas XXXX School
  • Volunteer at Mission XXXX
  • Engineering Club - Treasury
  • Cardboard Boat Regatta - 2nd Place
  • HOSA - 1st Place District in Dental Science
  • Orchestra - Symphony
  • UIL Number Sense
  • UIL Mathematics
  • UIL Literary Criticisms
  • Key Club
  • National Honor Society
  • All-Region Orchestra
  • Quiz League
  • Robotics Club

Honestly, I don’t think any of my stats above are that outstanding. My great performance while taking heavy class load and my kind of poetic/creative narrative definitely helped, I think. My class load junior year: AP Cal BC, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Chemistry, AP English Composition, AP US History, AP European History, PreAP Computer Science, and Symphony Orchestra (Received all A+'s) I think I mentioned my recommendation letters on page 1 before (" my English teacher’s recommendation for me (talked about standing up to her and questioning her answer key’s subjectivity, one of the best writer in class, dedicated/responsible, humorous persuasive speech, etc ").

By the way, I am also Eastern Asian (with foreign citizenship and everything) and did not reside in Lubbock,TX.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I have a couple updates with awards and stuff
Do you think it would be good to update them/send them an email?

@fairyfantasy

  1. Do you know if we are allowed to update with awards through email?
  2. Does applying from Texas make it more competitive because we are competing with a larger applicant pool from Texas?
  3. How much do they base acceptance on stats and purely stats?
  4. Do prior research and research related awards help considerably? I did a pretty prestigious internship last summer and am deciding whether or not to send in my Siemens regional semifinalist status? (No place for awards)
  1. I never did but you can try.
  2. & 3) I can’t answer those questions since I am not Dr. SF and doesn’t participate in any part of the admissions process.
  3. Personally, I think research experience do help. Considerably? Maybe not. Refer to answer 1) for 2nd question.

FWIW - my son was a Clarkie a few years ago and there were no students from Texas that year - not from Lubbock or anywhere else in Texas. Maybe just a fluke that year, but maybe where you are from counts for less than other attributes.

Good luck to all. A great program.

@Woandering‌ well i mean he was messing with us, so i guess that does count as tr0lling?

Anyway here are my stats if anyone’s intereted but i’m not really expecting to get in:

SAT: 2370
ACT: no take
PSAT: 228 (lel)
Chem: 780

GPA: 4.0/4.51

Extracurriculars: research intern @ Stanford, individual research for science fair, lots of tutoring (mostly in school for bio), lots of volunteering (hospital and science camp cabin leader), officer for 3 clubs (though 1 is really small), concurrent enrollment course, and other things i did previous years like FBLA and music awards

My research areas listed are medicine (neurooncology) and nutrition (dietary effects on diabetes/hypertension)
