oh you have to call them to find out?
Is that how they described it? Multiple rounds? I’m surprised they don’t do rolling rejections then and inform people along the way that they haven’t made the cut. Any sense of when decisions would come out for those of us still interested in this program?
he said “soon” and that they received 536 applications
wow that’s more than i expected! 2% acceptance rate lmao
Hey everyone! I was selected last year and would like to help clarify part of the application process.
One reason why this program notifies its scholars so late, as compared to others like SSP or RSI, is because they want to make sure to review every single application carefully and thoroughly (it’s not to say that other programs don’t, but I know that this program puts a lot of thought into their selection process). This is to ensure that if an applicant is selected, they would be able to get the most out of the program. Additionally, since only a few applicants are chosen out of hundreds, it makes the selection process even more difficult.
I would like to reiterate that the Clark Scholars Program website clearly states that “the selected scholars will be notified via email or phone call”. You do not need to contact them; they will contact you if you are chosen. Since they have received an increased amount of applications this year, it makes sense that it is taking them longer to review all of them and that decisions will be made in May, not in April like last year.
Some people may decide to call the program ahead of decision notification to ask about their application status because they have been accepted to other programs, and other programs may need to hear back from them on whether they can attend or not before Clark Scholar’s decisions are released. Unless you have a special and unusual circumstance, I don’t recommend calling them ahead of time because they might still be very busy with the application process. It’s going to be May in a week, so just hold tight and hopefully you’ll hear from them soon!
Good luck to all of you!
(***NOTE: While I would love to talk to current and future applicants about this program, I kindly ask that people do not message or contact me due to privacy reasons. Thank you. Other than this post, it is unlikely that I will post again in the future.)
Hey I have a question. To give some context, I am from Michigan and just finished working in a lab at Michigan State University for about a year and half now.
I was accepted into the High Schools Honors Science Program (HSHSP) at Michigan State University.
I was also placed on the waitlist of the Simons Summer Research Program at Stony Brook University. Unfortunately, I was not pulled off the waitlist; however, a professor there has offered me an independent research opportunity and the research is quite fascinating and promising and in a different field than my previous lab. The program directors said that I can still partake in all of the Simons program activities and I have access to Simons housing and food options.
I am having trouble deciding between joining a program at a university that I am already familiar with (and I would probably conduct research in the field I did my previous research in because of how I structured my application) or pursuing the independent option in a new place and conducting research in a field that is more interesting to me.
Could I still mention on my college applications that I was accepted to HSHSP if I choose to do the independent option at Simons?
How seriously do colleges take program prestige? I know that both programs are great and I would have a great time at either, but I also want to make sure I make the best decision for enhancing my college applications.
Please let me know if I need to elaborate on anything. Thank you for any input you may have!

one of my friends said that results r out?
@sciencelover7783 Wrong thread for your HSHSP vs. Simons post–don’t hijack the Clark thread please!
So my friends said that they’ve called the winners already, but the website hasn’t been updated yet.
@pblover Has your friend been accepted?
I just got my call! I was chosen as one of the 12 scholars!
@AegonTargaryen18 congrats!!! are you planning on attending?
Actually, no. I also got into RSI, so I’ll be attending that instead.
@AegonTargaryen18 damnn JAX, Clark AND RSI??
Congrats! When did you get the call? Who called you? And how long did they give you to commit? Sounds like you are going to decline the offer. Opens up another spot! Assume though if we haven’t heard yet then we weren’t selected.
@HavenR I got the call a couple days ago, and they gave me until Wednesday, May 2nd to commit. Also, thanks @jeffrandell ! I guess I got lucky with applications this year. Hopefully college apps will be equally kind to me
Thanks for the reply. I haven’t heard anything. Did you get the sense that all 12 selected were being contacted at the same time and had until Wed to commit? The website still hasn’t changed. And says decisions in “early May.” I’m just wondering if there is still any hope for the rest of us ;). Enjoy RSI. And good luck to the next person who might get your spot at Clark’s!
My friend was selected. He received his decision through email and has been given until May 4 to commit.
I was selected as a scholar and can confirm that Clark has sent out some decisions via email and some via phone. I have also been given until May 4th to commit.
