I didn’t get it >.>

How long is the program? It pays significantly less than the other two i got into for this summer (this pays like a quarter of what i’m getting for the other ones and I have to go out of state for this too…)

But it’s not all about the money of course :)

Is this program structured? Will I be working on substantial, original research? Are there gonna be presentations and things?

Did you other ‘semifinalists’ get this? (cido, nirvanatear…)

Yes! I just got it today! I’m pretty sure this means we’re in, Proletariat2. Also congrats to blueducky and m.sides

I hope to see you guys there!

guys I’m matched with a professor too! I didn’t get an email though…can someone forward their content to me? Just “XXX” for all the names if you guys prefer not to…leak your identity before we meet in summer=p

if you didn’t get an email, how did you know you got matched? lol

I got a phone call=p

Yeah, I got a phone call, too.

I think it’s seven weeks long.

Can’t really answer this, but I would assume it is somewhat structured.

Well, it’s substantial and original enough such that previous attendees have been able to submit their stuff to Siemens-Westinghouse and Intel.

blueducky, it seems like you’re in a different situation from other posters in the summer program threads. I wonder if you would get better input on a different forum. Perhaps the Parents Forum would be a good place to ask. I think you should define the goals you want to accomplish with your summer program, rank the importance of these goals, and then decide upon your options based upon that.

Possible goals:

Make as much money as possible for college. Doing so in the summer could mean working less during the school year and having more time to devote to my studies.

Be able to spend as much time as I can with my HS friends before we all leave for college.

Develop my skills in a particular area of research so I’ll have a better chance of being able to do this kind of research right away in college.

Develop a close relationship with a mentor who would be a good source of advice and recommendation letters.

Develop my skills at making presentations of my research.

I’m not sure if you know who your assigned mentor is, but checking out his or her background would be helpful. So far as quality of programs, Clark Scholars has an outstanding reputation for everything I’ve read here.

semifinalist but no email/phone call so far…
Guess I got rejected…

congrats to nirvanatear, proletariat2, blueducky and cido- hope to see you this summer!
What are your research areas?

Mr. Sanfrancisco said that he will be sending info on my mentor next week.

Wow, this summer internship decision is going to be harder to make than my college decision. What the heck.

-I want to make a lot of money, though my parents are willing to pay for my tuition entirely. It’s a matter of me then not wanting them to pay for it. I can always pay them back years later (and they most likely won’t accept it anyway).

-UCB is 40 minutes driving away from my high school. Spending time with my HS friends will not be a problem.

-Developing my skills in Chemistry/Biological Science/Neuroscience (this is what i wrote for the Clark’s) can be accomplished at my other two internships as well.

-I already have a mentor from last summer with whom I am hoping to get to know even better. He wrote me letters of recommendation already, though to be honest, I don’t think they were unique/good enough to have significantly helped me… So i don’t know about this part.

-Making presentations – last summer’s experience was not structured at all. we were able to make presentations, but it was very informal. since my last internship was a nationally funded thing (you can take your grant to a local university, etc), it was totally up to the mentor how you want to do your research. We spent a lot of time just sitting around, to be honest, because there wasn’t TOO much we had to do. But i don’t know what research is supposed to be like, so i don’t know how research is really supposed to be like?

nirvanatear, just email Dr. San Francisco. The email says the same thing as a phone message.

m.sides - I picked Biological Sciences, and I explained below that I was especially interested in one specific topic within ecology. My mentor probably isn’t in that exact field, but hopefully something close. How about you?

You know, we should really get a facebook group. Anyone agree?

we really should! I just made one;) ===>[Login | Facebook](http://www.facebook.com/groups/create.php?customize&gid=76684829089#/group.php?gid=76684829089)
Search for “Clark Scholars 2009!” if the link doesn’t work.
I made it private but current and past Clarkies can request to join (mention your CC username). It’s going to be a really close-knit group after all!

I didn’t know how to mention my CC name when joining, but if you see someone with the initials S.K., that’s me.

got’cha. Where are Cido, blueducky and m.sides?

I’m not sure, but blueducky’s still making up his/her mind. I can see that there are three people in the group now; I wonder who the third (the girl) is. I can’t wait to meet all you guys!

So, what specifically are your research interests?

Alright guys…turns out… I did get in…
Yayyyy…

Yay! So, join the facebook group. Now.
