Clark Scholars Program!!

^bllllah! that was stupid! I thought of that while I was logging in to post my previous comment..but never really looked back to see the date! oh, i see...haha..I just googled Clark Scholars Program...and this thread came up...so, I just assumed it's a recent thread! :D

anyone know when decisions come out?

Oh, for a second I was thinking that decisions had already come out. Haha. I'm smart.

the wrong thread has been 'bumped' up....hahaha..the same mistake that I did b4! :D

oh, abt the decisions....the 'real' thread on this program mentions that it'll come out in the first part of April.....Ms. Durham sent an email to evvery applicant..as far as I know.

i did, but im not going to get in, cuz im missin a rec :[

uh.......that sucks...I'm sure they wudn't just totally ignore ur app coz they didn't get one rec from u..i guess that's bcoz of mailing purpose?

^yeh...it got totally sent to the wrong place...stupid post office. i think its too late to resent it anywyas =/

=[ i'm sorry! i hope you get into another program then!

haha wheres the right thread? i found this through google!

yeah, i applied too. i picked psychology, history, biology, envrionmental, and i think there's a section on "other", where I put down "economics".
i don't think my essay was good b/c i kind of rushed it.
Anyway, i got acccepted into Iowa SSTP where it's like clark except got to pay and it's in iowa. some people there even did go to Intel. I accepted iowa's offer, but i'm thinking maybe i want to go somewhere else....i know it's not right to "pull out"' and say I changed my mind....

yeah, i haven't heard anything from them though except a confirmation that they recieved the app on time. i hope i can go to this

this is my third choice, but still, it'd be great to receive sum kind of acceptance from at least one place! i just don't wanna do 'nothing' during summer!!!

this is probably a better program than, say, SSP and WTP right? cuz they actually pay u..

Narcissa, that really sucks!! One of my letters got lost too but I had the time to send another one.

I'm not sure if monetary value is the best way to assess overall value. Nevertheless, what's significant about Clark is how they pay for your living expenses for a month and a half and STILL give you a stipend. Sort of like TASP. However, SSP and WTP are more well-known and thus maybe more
"prestigious." I was sort of turned off by WTP since I thought I was perhaps a bit overqualified and thus didn't want to learn what I already knew, and SSP was unattractive since it emphasized how great it was that students were having all-nighters. Seriously, summer is the time to relax--I can have all the all-nighters I need during the school year. That's why I only applied to Clark--seemed like a good balance of research, sleep, and free time ^^

haha yeah clark doesnt require all nighters.. although i wont say we didnt pull any. none were for academic reasons tho :P i think a few ppl didnt sleep for over 36 hours when the 7th harry potter book came out. other times were just kinda "we dont feeling like sleeping, lets do something crazy" all nighters. :)

Dang clarks seems fun. I prolly won't get in seeing as how i already got rejected from rsi and both programs seem to be roughly equal in toughness.
Oh btw what is thier acceptence rate?

i know that their acceptances are extremely low (like 14 or something, right?), but i dont think that many people apply (probably somewhere in the low hundreds), but they undoubdtedly have a low acceptance rate.

^ I think the applicant pool is much harder too >_> The numbers for Clark remind me of the NASA program I went to last year which had around 10% admission for a pool of ~110, but I think I was one of the best qualified people there, unlike now for Clark where people all over the country are competing...

Also, as mjchiu2k said, 1/3-1/2 of the slots are taken by locals. I don't know how that affects the admission rate.

=(
i applied to TASP and The Jackson Laboratory Summer Student Program too, but I got rejected from both...sigh - i hope i make it into this program b/c it really does look amazing.

did any of you guys send in any kind of supplemental material? i was going to, but then didn't ...

Er, I sent in a research abstract from my last project as a supplement.

I pretty much did my whole application the day before... while, um, slightly inhibited, so I won't be too surprised if I get rejected. I have a research project already planned out for next year (its gonna be awesome) and I won't mind if I have to do it independently... again.

Though it would be nice to get in so I could get that stipend that they give to buy a kindle from Amazon... and maybe a keytar... oh and another arudino microcontroller.. and some servos.. and some IR and ultrasonic detectors :D

my kid attended a few years back, and at that time, the program took twelve students, one-half of which were required to be from the Lubbock area. of the remaining six, one was international, one was from another Texas area, and four were from out-of-state US.

that year, if i remember correctly, there were around 250-300 applicants. it seems that interest has increased since then, so i would guess the non-Lubbock acceptance rate will be something around 6/400.

BTW, most of the Lubbock students seemed to attend a math/science magnet school affiliated with the university, and they are extremely bright kids. it's a great program. and Texas Tech is a beautiful school, Lubbock notwithstanding.
