Does anyone know if students are given questionnaires so they are matched with compatible roommates for the Clark Summer Research Program? Is there a possibility that students would have the same roommates for Clark as they would in freshman year?
Maybe @3scoutsmom will answer this. Her son did participate in this program last summer.
I don’t recall a questionaire but for Fall I think you can request roommates. I don’t see why you couldn’t request the same roomates you had over the summer.
@ebh87 have you already been accepted to Clark for this sumer??? I didn’t think the application even opened until September…
@3scoutsmom No, my dd has not been accepted to Clark and you are correct that applications don’t open until September. She’s considering it and was wondering if UT Dallas tries to match students with compatible roommates for the program and if she’s have those same roommates in the fall or if she’d have different ones.
@ebh87 I wouldn’t worry too much about Clark roommates they are all smart kids (Clark is very selective) and they are in the freshman dorms which have three private bed rooms, individual sinks, and shared bath and common area. The kids are in their programs all day with other kids from their labs.
My son is considering attending UTD. He’s a NMSF and we went there last week and he just felt right about it. They shared some info on Clark summer program. @3scoutsmom - did your son have a good experience with it?
Yes, he had a great time. The only issue is that it’s the entire summer, the last one you get with your kid before they start college and are too busy with study abroad, internships and various summer programs. This year it starts the Sunday 5/31 (the Sunday just after our high school graduation) and runs until July 31st and then they only have a week or two before they have to be back for orientation and freshman move in.
@3scoutsmom Do you know how competitive it is to get in? What I’m really struggling with is not knowing if dd will be accepted until so close to when it starts. We have flights and lodging to deal with plus what do you do about planning your summer? We want to have a family vacation and she would like to take advantage of other opportunities in the summer if she isn’t accepted to Clark but it would be too late for those if she doesn’t find out until late April/early May. I wish they would notify sooner.
@ebh87 totally agree! How competeitive it is depends on the number of lab spots open for your kid’s field and the number of kids that apply. (I’m pretty sure the that McDermott finalists and NMF get a bit of an advantage but don’t really know.)
It’s fuuny, I never thought that missing the last summer after high school would bother me because my kids are always off doing something over the summers but it was more like starting college early for DS18. There’s really no way to do a family vaction, let alone anything else.
Again DS18 thought it was great and it really was for him - * I* just wish we had that last summer with him. Now of course DS20 wants to do Clark too and I can’t really tell him no, add to that the won’t be starting off college on a very positive note if he doesn’t make it into Clark and his brother did. Seriously, I’m in a no win situation here.
