Clarkson vs Drexel

Yo Guyz! So I am evaluating these universities but I need some strong points to consider. Please help LOL.

Major: Kinda undecided but pretty sure it will be Data Science

EFC: Clarkson ($25k annual), Drexel ($30k annual, but might decrease)

Very remote location versus very urban location.

how do you even get to Clarkson?

Dog Sled.

Potsdam, New York is about 2 or 3 hours north of Syracuse, New York.

Closest airport in Canada … and then …

well, they have an acceptance rate of 75%. LOL.

Clarkson is a solid engineering school in a very cold weather, remote location.

Clarkson University is about 70% male students.

Clarkson’s most popular sport is ice hockey.

Sounds like a hoot  :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Remote location isn’t a bad thing for me, I’m okay with that. I dont know why but even though Clarkson has a higher ranking, I’ve never heard people talk about Clarkson, and Drexel, I mean ligit everyone knows Drexel and plans to go there. What is that LOL

LOL I did apply for Civil Engineering, but I might change to Data Science

Enough differences that you should have a preference…
Do you like the urban location or a more remote area? Do you want a smaller or mid size school? Are you interested in the co-op program at Drexel?

Clarkson is a fabulous school, and personally I would choose it over Drexel. Look at the accolades. Accolades | Clarkson University

I know current and past grads. They all literally gush over it. And all are doing very well. My S had it in his top two (chose another, sadly) though it was probably the right choice for him.

Clarkson is super remote but for some people that can be an advantage. I went to St. Lawerence, just down the road form Clarkson (and hockey rivals!) and I loved it. I felt like being in the middle of nowhere helped me form closer friendships, people weren’t always heading off campus for fun, we made it ourselves. The weather does suck if you don’t like the cold but I was from up north so I didn’t mind. My husband, who I met at SLU, was from Florida and he actually liked the change of pace although he did have to go to Potsdam to stock up on wool sweaters!

Do you want to be in a city meaning a small urban campus, and, after your first year, half your friends go away for co-ops, but you get to go on a co-op too
Or
Do you want an isolated but residential campus, access to Montreal, extremely strong for data science?

Clark son is well known in engineering circles and is a very good school. Engineering grads make good salaries out of Clarkson just as they do from any good engineering school.

If you like the outdoors, the huge Adirondack Park isn’t far and is as good or better than any national park. Ottawa, the capitol of Canada, isn’t far and it’s a beautiful city with embassies from all over the world. We may think of it as remote, but that part of Canada right across the river is the most heavily populated part of the country. Not only do you have access to Ottawa, but Toronto and Montreal, major big cities, aren’t that far either. And the Thousand Islands in the St. Lawrence River is a major tourist attraction, not to mention Lake Placid, the Olympic Ski Center. You’ll see a whole new part of the world here.

SUNY Potsdam is right in the same town, is about the same size as Clarkson, and it’s almost 70% women, so that rebalances the gender distribution among college students in town.
