Does the Class 11 percentage of a student is of high impact if applying to HYPSM colleges?
I mean I have a low class 11 percentage ..in 75s , do i really stand a chance?

Do they consider 11th class percentage? - Yes
To what extent? - Nobody knows
Will they reject you outright? - No
Should you apply then? - Yes, there is no loss in trying.

Okay but considering I got 2200+ in SAT and a good Class 12 percentage then
I am asking this because if Class 11 percentage really matters a lot and I dont stand much of chance then I better concentrate on Indian universities only.

At HYPSM, what matters and what doesn’t are known only to the adcoms.
Will 2200+ SAT and a good 12th % compensate the low 11th %? - It can happen but don’t rely completely on US admissions. It’s a crapshoot. So do your best in SAT and your 12th boards. Do not let go the Indian entrance tests.

ADVICE: Get a very high percentage in 12th (>=95%).

@hopingforbetter 95%+ in an Indian school?? I doubt that is possible
It would either have to be a very bad school or a nerdy student!! :D

@jmlover - Don’t let this 75% affect your college decision. Apply where you would want to go and do your best in school, SAT, etc. and see what happens.

75% in a single year - won’t affect you to a GREAT extent if you have a brilliant academic record otherwise.

That said, you are more likely to get in with a 90% than with a 75%!! Haha!! :)

All the best

Is it?? I got nearly 95% (94.4%). My 12th class–around 30 students in my class–got five above 98% and a lot more 95%+.

Why is this we both always fight on the boards and marks issues??:D

@OP However I always feel rishav has good knowledge than I have. So follow him!!:):p

@hopingforbetter - Ohh, you’re talking about Boards?? Then it is easily achievable!! Varies from board to board, but 90%+ is easy.

I was referring to internal examinations - which screw students!! :)

P.S. - 12th Boards do not matter for admissions, unless you are a Gap Year student!! :D

^See see…see that…intelligence at peaks:p

PS I studied under AP Intermediate Board. So my 11th is 94.68% and 12th is 94.15%. That 94.4% is the combined percentage as it appears on my certificate.

it does if u fail… dont think OP will as he/she considers 75% to be rly low…

@swish - if you fail, you are not gonna go to college. period.

^ What does this OP stand for? ( Sorry for irrelevant question)

^What did you mean?? By OP, did you mean the OP of this thread or rishav?

No, Iam not referring to any person. I want to know the full form of OP.

If from great student record you can include NTSE Scholar, KVPY 1st level clear then?

And yes internal school class 11 exams which screwd me up
They make the paper hell tough and i didnt study :P

""“12th Boards do not matter for admissions, unless you are a Gap Year student!!”"

Even I was thinking the same, applying to universities before board exams , so will it affect? :O

P.S Why doesnt this forum has a Multi Quote option, Its so annoying

^ See you can multi - quote!! Haha!

And yes NTSE scholar, KVPY is all good but what colleges want to see is whether or not you can handle their course rigor for which you will have to have an avg of 85% at least over 4 years.(Not including board exams)

Anyway, I think you shouldn’t rethink your college list based on this one thing - maybe just make sure that you have safeties!!

Remember, while you can get accepted with a 75%, you are not sure to get accepted even with a 95%!! Other stuff matters as well!! :D

All the best.

Oh I really didnt get how to multiquote but thanks!

Well as you all known Class 9 and 10 we have CGPA …really scared a bit now . Should have studied for class 11 exams

okay what safeties would you recommend me?

[ Quote] Copy/Paste text [ /Quote]

*Remove the spaces & you get to quote

CC has a lot of formatting styles - you can find the link at the bottom of a forum I think.

Coming to safeties… It all depends on your particular strengths & weaknesses. Different people have different definitions of safeties.

My advice is use college search on CC or on the college board website or use rankings from QS/Times HE/etc. Then compare your stats to avg admission stats of the colleges.

A safety is one where your stats fall in the top 25 percentile.
A match is one where your stats fall in the mid 50 percentile.
A reach is one where your stats are in the bottom 25 percentile.
(All Ivies & top universities are reaches for everyone though!!)

You have time on your side, spend the summer researching on colleges & where you want to end up!!
