I just got back from dropping my daughter at Wesfest. It's a beautiful day up here in the northeast. Campus was buzzing with admitted students and all kinds of activities. In any event for those that are interested here are the stats:

6,876 applications
1,809 admitted (26%)

Early decision were 9% of applications and 16% of admission offers
about 600 app's and 300 admits.

Thanks for posting that info. But I'm curious about the sat averages, because I'd think the 2008 test scores are for matriculated kids, and 2009 scores are for admitted kids, so one can't really compare the two. The 2009 averages probably will shift depending on who actually matriculates. And I'm surprised they accepted less - any sense of why that's so?

I'm pretty sure the avg. SATs won't change much once they calculate the matriculants. The people bringing up the admitted average probably have a plethora of schools to choose from and when several of them are out of the pool it drops things a bit.

That said, however, the lower accept rate can be explained as last year's yield was a tad higher than usual which led to a mini housing shortage for the first week or two of school. This year I think they've undershot it and plan to make up whatever deficit occurs using the waitlist (Wes tends to waitlist a lot of people).

I don't think the difference between 700 and 720 is a big deal. Matt seems to have the answer about the difference in admitted numbers. I just thought I'd post the info I received today. I do think that something is a miss with class rank too. I'd find it hard to believe that last year 66% percent were in the top 10% of H.S and 88% were this years numbers. My guess would be that they are very comparable to each other. The paper has a date of 8/04 for the class of '04, I'm guessing this August the adjusted numbers will come out.

I just re-read the heading of the papers.. Profile of Students Offered Admissions for 2005 while the other side is the Profile of First Year Students.

What is considered a lot of people on the waitlist? I've seen posts for some schools saying waitlists are from 2 - 5% of applicants, depending on the school. But obviously not all waitlisted kids choose to remain on the list - any sense in general of how that works out?

It seems so hard with so many kids applying to so many different schools to predict much of anything - it's hard on the kids and the admissions people too. And how do waitlisted kids factor into the numbers - if offered a spot they must count in the applicant/accepted numbers too, right?

lbridge I just read your other posts, thanks for clarifying. You're right the top 10% shift does seem big. But however it works out I'm sure most kids will wind up in terrific schools. There's so many talented kids and great schools, the process is nerve wracking but we need faith it'll all work out in the end.

The date on the class of 09 is 3/31/05.. before anyone has had a chance to decide to accept a waitlist spot. I don't think any of the numbers I listed contain waitlist students. Again the numbers will shift when they have all info on those attending. I can't find any info on waitlist numbers. Daniel, I agree that everyone will wind up in schools that are terrific and right for them. My daughter is an ED1 admit.

Actually the extra 20 is a pretty big deal when it comes to housing. It won't be so much of a problem this coming year because the new dorms will be done though.
