Class Advice

Hi so as a freshman I of course got last pick to classes. So I'm taking three classes MWF, two classes TTH and a first year experience class on thursdays. I want to major in communications/journalism but I didn't get into any of those classes. should i drop my music class that's at 9:25-10:40am and take a night class 6:30-9 for intro to pr or intro to advertising. im more interesting in those things but idk how a night class would be any advice on them?

It isn’t obvious that you have a propensity for writing composition. Stick with music.

Are night classes inferior in some way to regular classes? If you’re more interested, take it. Unless it’s going to interfere with something, then you can always take it next semester.

I can understand your hesitancy to take a night class. Lots of students avoid them like the plague while others gravitate towards them.

Can you generally stay awake and focused from 6:30-9? Are there any social activities you think you may miss out on that you really don’t want to? Which days is the night class? Those are usually the things students consider before signing up for those classes, so if you think it’ll work out, it’s best to try for it!

AtomicCafe hit it on the head. Another question I have is do you need the music class? Because if you do, just get it out of the way now so you don’t have to take it down the road later.

I love night classes. I’ve been able to take grad classes at night with phd and masters candidates.

There should be some kind of intro. to mass communication or some kind of basic 101 media class that you have to take before all your other communication classes. I know because that’s my major too, and every school I looked at had at least one class like that. Make sure you get whatever that class is in your first semester because that can put you behind. If not make sure it’s the first thing you’re signed up for second semester. If you have to e-mail the professor or your advisor and they might be able to find a way to get you in the class :)

tobacco-rude. and i switched it today because advertising sounds interesting. its only on tuesdays from 6:30-9pm and on tuesdays my earliest class is 3pm  i didn’t really want to take the music class anyway i needed to fill my requirements and that was all that was left. i’m not sure what kind of communications field i want to be in but hopefully i’ll get an idea by taking intro to advertising. thanks for your replies!

There aren’t many disadvantages to a night class. The only thing I can think of is that it kinda hinders your chance to get involved with clubs/activities which usually meet in the evening. But if its just one day then its not a big deal. Also, your dorm floor may be more social in the evening, but if you’re only missing one day, you’re not really missing much.
