How many students have to be enrolled in a class for it to not get cancelled? I go to Mt Sac, and I have to take a class that only has 13/24 students registered. I was told it could get cancelled - do you think it will?

Every college has different criteria for determining whether or not a class should be cancelled. At our college (www.everettcc.edu), factors include number of students enrolled, likelihood that more students will enroll, whether class will be needed for students to complete a degree, whether class is part of a sequence, and whether the class is taught by a full-time employee (who is getting paid their salary, regardless of how many classes they teach).
13/24 sounds like right at the threshold that we use to allow a class to be offered. For us, that is very close to the financial break-even point where the tuition the students paid is equal to the compensation for the teacher. I don’t know the criteria that Mt. Sac uses, but if it were me, I would not cancel the class, and hope to pick up another couple of students by the time the enrollment period ends.
As ALF says above, it depends on the college.
I think there is a chance that it might be cancelled, although it seems unlikely. My college has had classes that were relatively empty and were not canceled. Nevertheless, I have also seen my college cancel classes, change instructors etc… without even e-mailing students about it. So just keep an eye on it, but don’t worry about it too much.
It may also be related to whether some other course the same instructor can teach is overflowing, so it may be more worthwhile to have that instructor teach an added section of the overflowing course rather than an underenrolled course.
