Hi everyone,

I'm a bit concerned- I attend transfer orientation on June 24th, which is when I will be able to sign up for classes. Today when I was choosing which classes I want to take I noticed a lot of (most of) the classes I want to take are already filled. Is there no chance of taking the classes I need now? I'm a Psych major, and the classes I want to take or need to take in order to even move forward in the major are already full. Not to mention my minor in linguistics, which again, I am not able to proceed with because of this. Is there any way around the class capacity? (Sorry, I know, stupid question.) The orientations for both transfers and freshmen haven't even happened yet! I get that current students get first pickings, but now what is everyone else supposed to do? It's a little frustrating.

Either that, or could anyone offer any advice as to what I should take or do in the meantime? I have all of my gen eds covered from my previous school... I really can't afford to take classes I don't need...

Thanks,
Mocha

My recommendation would be to look at the college (Harper, SOM, etc) and the required classes for them. if you have all of them as well, then I would search for any class that gives you what you need for your major. Also definitely keep an eye on the classes during the first 2 weeks. people transfer classes and one might open. Look often and maybe you will be lucky. My son is a sophmore and is also a psych major. Maybe consider taking a minor

just looked at whats open and I see ‘Developmental Psychology’ (200 level class), ‘Behavior Disorders’,‘Social Psychology’, ‘Drugs And Behavior’ (300 level class)

Hey! I’ll be a transfer student as well, majoring in Psych. I’ve already knocked out all my geneds and was looking forward to concentrating on Psych classes. I stumbled into the same problem as you. That Stats class and Research Methods are all filled up, and you can’t go further without those. Like hftmrock said, many people have told me to just keep an eye out for people dropping classes, because that’s the only way you’ll get into them now.

You probably know this already but I just wanted to mention it: the Psych major requires a couple of random math and science courses. So maybe you could get those out of the way. I’ll be taking Paleobiology (hopefully…I think haha) this semester to fill the last math/science course I need. There is no prerequisite and it’s still open. I was planning on linguistics too, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to work out with the schedule as it stands (and trying to finish in two years). I’m filling the rest of my time double majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Law now. Good Luck!

Edit: I also just wanted to mention, be careful what classes you take. Harpur requires a certain number of upper level classes to graduate. If you take a random class, just be careful. Paleobiology is a 300 level course, and if I didn’t have to worry about the upper level class requirement level I definitely wouldn’t be taking it haha.
