class decision dilemma....(arch)

i have a little problem.

I want to apply to Cornell Architecture and i have (as of the end of MAy) a full Junior year coarseload. I am constantly being told to work on a portfolio, as a good portfolio is crucial to one's chances of acceptance.

My junior year courseload for next year is Adv Physics, Adv English, Adv SPanish III, AP US history and.....Chinese I.

Chinese I is a class that i am personally interested and would like to pursue. Plus with a current 3.5 GPA, Chinese I is nice. (My best friend and his friends in the class, there arent many of them, get either A's or A+'s. This class is also not very common and would help set me apart while raising my GPA. (plus i heard cornell has a very good asian studies and asian language department) If i took chinese, I could also work with my friend and art teacher about my portfolio. One of my art teachers said to take a 3D art class such as ceramics. I dont really want to dump Chinese for ceramics.

I could take ceramics and get that new found knowledge and maybe new work for my portfolio.

Im not sure if i should take the class that helps raise my GPA while working with an art faculty member or a gifted friend on art projects about once a week, or if i should take the ceramics class and learn on my own how to make ceramics things while getting a thorough understanding. Probaly much much better than if i worked with my friend or faculty member once a week.

Either way, i have a lot of things that i cant wait to start for my portfolio. Lots of different mediums and different perspectives and aspects. Im excited.

so. ceramics? or chinese? feedback would be appreciated. :-)

p.s. happy graduation to everyone!

I don't know what Ceramics is like in your school, but in my school we just made stupid pots and other useless stuff out of clay. I'd say go for the Chinese.

i doubt that one ceramics class would change your portfolio much
here is bascially how the cornell architecture admissions process goes:
the take your grades, sats, ect and place you in a category from 1-5
and then if u are in the 4/5, they look at your portfolio as the basis of your admission

so basically your'e saying, aim for the high grades first.

so chinese....while still working on my portfolio. that was what i was leaning towards....

anyother feedback is awesome.

thanks greygirl!

Yes u are right about the great asian program at Cornell (from what I hear). Chinese is probably the smartest language to take currently, so it is definitely a positive aspect. If taking a language that will help you advance in your career and future also advances your gpa I don't see you going wrong with it! Ceramics could help you with being creative and such, but I don't see it having a big impact on an architecture person (although I am not one so I can't be sure). GL in whatever you choose!

thanks for all the help guys, chinese is probaly what i will choose, it may just be that boost im looking for, plus two languages that are used all around the world (chinese and spanish) are good to kno, even if it is only a little bit.

thanks everyone
