I know UVM's a very academically challenging school, but I'm just curious as to how academically challenging? I've been accepted and am seriously considering attending but am a little nervous as to whether I can handle the school academically. I'm mainly a straight A student, taken 4 AP's and multiple honors... Thanks!

DS was similar to you in high school - 3.8 unweighted avg with APs and honors classes. He enjoys his classes at UVM but hasn’t found them to be particularly challenging (i.e. he does well in them with work but also seems to have plenty of time to have a lot of fun). A lot probably depends on your intended major though. The engineering and hard sciences will likely be more challenging than the humanities. DS is taking mostly humanities right now. Took Calc 2 his first semester there and at first thought it was going to be difficult but then said the tests ended up being easy. Being a straight A student with APs and honors classes, I wouldn’t anticipate UVM being academically too much for you to handle.

Thanks so much! Yes, I intend to major in biology so I assume the sciences would be more challenging.

My daughter is a pre-med biology major in the honors college. Most of her classes in high school were honors level classes, so her background is probably similar to yours. She is doing well, but works hard for her good grades in the sciences at UVM. She loves UVM, and can’t imagine being happier anywhere else.
