What an amazingly talented group of people on this stream! Some day when you are on-stage at Lincoln Center, send us all a note so that we can find out who you were… Good attitude, @steamco, re: Mannes.
My D and I were talking over dinner last night, and she pointed out how I have been using “we” language through this process. “We” are applying to music school, “we” are auditioning. My role was to coordinate travel, manage the Google Sheets where we tracked applications and recommendation completion, push her to get trial lessons set up, and be a shoulder to lean on when the rejections came through. Thank goodness I didn’t have to do any of the musical part! I realize it’s a bit of a joke to think about how personally involved I became in the process, but it will be sad to conclude and to no longer have this shared, angsty experience with my daughter.
On Monday I drove her downtown for her youth chorus rehearsal, which has been a weekly responsibility for the past 8 years, and realized she only has 4 more weeks of rehearsals before her final concert. I know I’m going to be a wreck when they sing their finale! We have tickets to La Traviata in May, and just to mix things up, The Who’s 50th Anniversary tour the following week, and we might try to catch the Rolling Stones this summer as well. (Did you know that the chorale from CCPA sang the intro to “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” last time the Stones played Chicago?). But then before we know it she’ll be off – and these responsibilities and experiences will be behind us. Then maybe I can pay attention to her siblings again…
I too will miss the “we” in this as well. Unless just a few schools, I’d think most kids would need the support of their parents through this process. And I believe my other younger kids want their mom back too. Lol.
When do we hear from UNT FriscoFred for scholarships?
@cellomom6, I’m not sure but I think UNT said at the auditions that they will distribute scholarship offers shortly after 4/1 - so watch your mailbox. I don’t think that the music school itself does much beyond the $1,000 merit that gets you in-state tuition status (so, in reality, an $11,000 value), so the main scholarships would be the university-wide ones. Those tend to be tied to test scores and other measures of academic merit, and as I recall had a separate application process.
My son is anxiously waiting.
@FriscoFred Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the “we” in this process. I have had the same experience, I feel so invested in the process and results, when he gets accepted somewhere, I feel like I got accepted too 
There are so many “lasts” this year for our seniors, and for us as their parents—an emotional time for sure. All the parents on here seem so supportive of their talented children; that support will pay off—time for them to fly!
Your kids are very lucky, forum parents. I wish I had a parent accompanying me to all these auditions (as well as to help out with the auditions financially!) I hope your children know how lucky they are.
Well April 1 has arrived so I just want to say CONGRATULATIONS to both parents and students on all of the acceptances this year. I have not posted as the results came out, but have been following along and smiling each time a new one is announced.
Good luck this month with the decisions. I look forward to seeing these posted as well.
