Class Entering in 2015 Acceptances and Final Decisions

What’s typical on CC is in no way typical in the real world.

@musicamusica Well put.

@paintbrush22‌ The director of the voice department, Dr. Hardenbergh (I think that’s how you spell it) notified me via e-mail personally, complimenting me, even. I’m pretty sure it isn’t the usual route of acceptance, considering that I remember quite clearly at my audition that they try to send financial aid and acceptances together through the mail (if they meant snail meal or e-mail I have no idea), so I doubt most people are being notified yet. None of my friends (I live in Miami so a lot of my friends who live in Miami obviously applied as well) have received a notification of acceptance or declination.

Best of luck, I hope you get in! I think the staff is lovely and everyone is really accommodating, (which is why it has jumped from being low on my list to quite high to be honest with you) but I’m sure you already knew that!

OperaAdri, I know your intentions are the best and that you are very excited by the news, but please take care not to make this more stressful for others than it already is by seeming, albeit probably unintentionally, to flaunt what you believe is your special, early acceptance and the special praise you received in your email. Think about how you would feel reading this post if you were the one waiting still to hear.

Also remember that CC posts are highly searchable, and if you are being treated as specially as you suspect you are, your identity to the department is no secret. In other words, for your own good, don’t mention faculty by name: it will turn up in a Google search.

ListenMissy, there is no set schedule for when different conservatories and different department notify. And notification procedures can change from year to year. Generally you hear by or before April 1. Elite programs tend to notify later, often in the third week of March, although there are exceptions.

Thanks, @glassharmonica‌, I was under the impression that you hear in March or by April 1, other than, say, at schools with Dec. “early review” dates, where you hear in Dec. (Oberlin comes to mind). It seems voice performance is a different ballgame, or perhaps just a coincidence that posters on these boards are hearing early?

String-folk are hearing from some places. We’re just not seeing much of that here because there aren’t as many instrumentalists posting.

Frost School of Music (Miami) changed their application process this year which may explain why some people have heard and others have not. In recent years, all Frost applicants were treated as “Regular” Admission but followed the EA deadlines i.e. applying in early December with decisions not going out much before mid-March. This year, they allowed applicants to apply as EA on November 1 and request the EA audition date in early December. I believe EA notifications went out within the last 2 weeks but those applying RD would still be waiting - auditions are still occurring last weekend with decisions not sent until mid-March.

How odd, @NEILRRM‌ – usually, EA and ED notifications are sent by mid-late Dec. so that people can apply to other schools RD by the Jan. 1 deadline if they don’t get into their choice school ED or EA. Unless I’m misunderstanding something.

I am transfer student from Philippines. Piano major. Got full tuition and fees scholarship to study in SIU carbondale. Also, maybe a full tuition and fees scholarship to Illinois state. Which university should I choose?..

ED is binding, but EA is not, which could be the source of some of the confusion here. And VP applicants will hear from the elite programs at the same time, just as glassharmonica stated. Some of those schools are still holding auditions this weekend and early next week and since students have until May 1st to commit (undergrads) and April 15th (grads) there is no benefit for those schools to notify any earlier than they have to.

@loadingpianist- We can’t give you advice based on what you’ve told us because we don’t know your abilities, which teacher might be the best for you or any other of a bunch of variables. I’m sure that whichever school you choose, you will have a great time. Congratulations!

Hmmm… I understand the difference between ED and EA, but wouldn’t both report before the RD deadlines?
Even if EA is non-binding, it would still make a difference to the rest of the app process, wouldn’t it?

Students accepted EA at universities still have until May 1st to accept/decline an offer - same as RD.

@mezzo’smama hello! Thank you haha! Well my current pieces are in the Licentitate syllabus of the Royal Conservatory of Music… But do you know the reputation of each of the school in terms of the music program/community? I heard that Southern Illinois has a vibrant community because they have a music festival going on there…

I get that accepted EA students have till May 1. What I meant was, don’t the EA schools notify early so that if a student is NOT accepted, they can apply other places, or is the assumption for EA schools that students are, by default, applying to other places.

@listenmissy ED notifications are by mid December, but EA notifications can be as late as early Feb- it depends on the school. My understanding is that students are not waiting on EA school results to apply elsewhere because they will miss RD deadlines. They will wait for their ED notification of Dec 15 to see if they have to send out RD school apps that are due between Jan 1 and Feb 15.
