So it says that we can start signing up for classes starting July. What if I don't know what I want to major in still by then? Can i wait until late August to sign up? Do classes tend to fill up quickly?

I’ve heard that classes will fill up VERY quickly, so it’s important to sign up early for classes that you want. You don’t have to fulfill your major requirements right away…

Lets just say the smartest people aka everyone at Cornell wake up ten minutes before add/drop begins so that they can get into the class they want. So you’re battling against a couple thousand people. If you are dead set on one class add it in July.

When we sign up for courses, are we going to be picking time slots? Or just courses?

Is it going to work the same as housing, where there is no advantage to sign up before a certain date, but everything after that date has less priority?

I think we might be picking time slots, at least when it comes to lectures/discussion sessions. Not sure though…

Here is how it works freshmen:
- Some schools (such as ILR) pre-enrolls you for some classes and you don’t have to worry about adding/dropping classes yourself.
- Other schools let you do it on your own. Pretty much you go to jtf.cornell.edu during the add/drop period and you add the class you want (you also get to choose the time if there is more than one option). If the class is full you can add yourself to the waitlist.
- You don’t really have to worry about adding classes regarding your major. Just worry about the normal freshmen classes (freshmen writing, gym) and add other general requirements (sciences, history). Also, the required intro classes (such as econ or bio) probably won’t fill up.
