shows that people started hearing back around 12/11. If you have applied already, don't see this thread. It's really disturbing and demoralizing. After reading this thread I was like "wow, I have no chance."

On the other hand a statistic to raise your hopes. People who apply ED have over a 30% chance of getting in, people who don't have 0. So be happy that you applied :)

Last year people started getting the letters the 11th. However, don't be nervous if you get it later, regardless of where you live and whether others in your town have gotten them

I live an hour away from Princeton. Everyone else in my school who applied, including someone who lives on my block, got their letters the 11th. Mine didn't come until the 13th.

Does Princeton send out decisions via email at all? Being international it might take a week to receive the letter and the waiting process is rather disconcerting.

I hope they don't send them over e-mail. I think the only reassuring part about the letters is that they are much more definitive than internet decisions. I would rather stake out my mailbox than just stay up all night and keep checking a website. Plus, all of the drama of college admisssions rests on a letter...internet acceptances ruin that tradition.

IF you take collegeboards example of just how unreliabe the whole internet results thing is especially if you factor in timezones for internationals. I like mail cauz it only comes at one time every day :)

Exactly.....sitting at my comp and waiting for SAT scores wasn't fun. Especially how it was uncertain when they would come out, and I considered staying up late, etc. With mail, you know when it will come, and if it doesn't, you can breathe (or stress out) for another day. Plus, who doesn't like getting mail?

I do like getting mail! But getting it five days later than everyone else and getting all nervous is not fun at all. And there's the problem of applying to other schools in time, since I'm international I need get my tutors to mail the recommendations at least a week before the 1st Jan deadline to make sure they are post-marked before that.

I don't think Princeton give out online notification. I think Harvard and Stanford do. Do you guys know what other top schools give out online notifications?

I totally believe that acceptance letter should come in mail. I mean its the whole tradition...esp thick vs thin (which is prob not true for Princeton) and what not. Getting the decision online kills the fun (take for example SAT, ACT, IB scores...getting it in mail is SO much better). In fact I even wanted to mail in my application to stick with the tradition, but the admission rep who came to my area "strongly encouraged" online app...so I decided not to make extra work for Pton people.

However, the mailman comes in our area at the end. We get mail at 5:30-6:30PM (mostly around 6).

Aghhhh, well four extra hours won't kill me, but they would be four loooong hours. Esp when all the CCers from NoVA would start posting their decisions

well four extra hours won't kill you, but five extra days might just kill me :(. yes i agree that receiving mail is ever so much more exciting, but imagine how you would feel waiting aimlessly when everyone else knows his or her decision.

i think last year the harvard people knew around 15 dec. not too sure about stanford but it was about the same time.

Is it true that acceptances are sent by Fedex? I heard that was the case. If so, we might not want anything to be in our mailboxes at all! Instead, look outside your front door...
