Class of '09 Who got in

Decision: Deferred - Manual Review Req ...what does this mean..?!?! does this mean i find out in spring? i dont understand!! ahhh

Look 9 threads below this one. It says Deferred, what's that mean?

Good Luck

Jerod

tamy 02, sorry to hear that. but don't worry...there's still have hope! what school/major did you apply under?

I applied to LAS and my intended major was Biochemistry!
Yeah Iwas hoping i'd b hearing from them around this time..i cant wait till april..thats soo long away!

tarny02: I also had Deferred - Manual Review Req one day (mid-November I think) but it changed to Admit about a week later.

Me == nw suburbs of Chicago; 1530/36; bioengineering.

Wow, Fenguin, you are one of 25 to be admitted in the BioEngineering Dept. Congrats. You think you will be attending the University of Illinois ?

Good Luck,

Jerod

Ehehe, thanks omniscient. However, I'm thinking they're probably accepting more to Bioen this year, because there's already two people from my school who have gotten in. It would be weird if my school had 8% of all the admits because there's so many more awesomely qualified people throughout the nation. Also, if they want a class size of 25, they'll have to accept a lot more people due to people going to other colleges, et cetera.

There's a high chance I'll attend U of I. However, I'm still waiting on decisions from my other colleges.

"Wow, Fenguin, you are one of 25 to be admitted in the BioEngineering Dept."

Does the site say how many applicants are accepted to a dept. each yr??? If so, where?

On UIUC's applicaiton in the Engineering Part, it says, if you play on applying to BioEngineering, you can apply to another Engineering major because they say they only fill around 25 spots for Bio Eng.

Engineering usually admits somewhere in the 65% range. How it breaks down per department I do not know although it is likely somewhat lower for the more popular programs -- Computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and to some degree civil engineering -- and somewhat higher for others. The yield rate (those who enroll of those admitted) is usually 40% to 50%. Thus for the new BioEng program to get 25, they will probably admit about 60. Also, its admit rate will likely be one of the lower because it will have popularity among applicants as the new program. Having 3 from one school may seem a lot but you should also be aware that UIUC said it will heavily favor Illinois residents for that particular program for the upcoming year (not its usual practice for other programs). Enrolling 25 may seem low but they usually enroll fewer than that for several programs -- Engineering Physics, Engineering Mechanics, Industrial Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, and Agricultural Engineering. Computer science and computer, electrical, and mechanical engineering are the high ones with usual enrollement in the 150 to 170 range.

hey does anyone know if u of i has already sent all their acceptance letters to those who applied by the priority deadline? I still haven't gotten a response yet, kinda nervous :-/

Of course not, they still have a lot of apps. to go through.

Jerod

I just got in today. It says "admit." For about a week I had "deferred," but that doesn't mean deferred in the sense that you're not good enough to be admitted right away. It just means they didn't review your app yet. You shouldn't worry about being UIUC deferred. I applied very late (12/1) but still got into the Accounting program. I'm from NJ and got 1470.

wow....you got a really quick reply...! I applied Nov 1st..hehehe...but then all my material for soem reaosn wasnt ready fro checking until like last week! i really hope i get admitted...UIUC is my top choice in terms of public unis im applying to! I can only hope!

since my school does not rank (very competitive HS in NJ...we were ranked #1 this year in the state), what are my chances at getting in LAS with a 3.5 u/w (i bombed freshman year with a 2.9) and a 1450 SAT I score? If i were to estimate my rank, i would say i'm in the top 25%.

Stellar, your school Bergen Academy by any chance? 3.5 is kinda low, how are your SAT's and what do you want to major in?

Probably political science...and no, i attend West Windsor-Plainsboro HS North...#1 public

Yay! I just got in! :)

Right now, this is my #1 choice, and it sounds like an excellent school. Hope to see you all there.

congrats duff! wen did u apply n what r ur stats?
