Class of '13 Applicants to NYU!

Hi. I'm Sharon. I'm an Asian girl from Georgia... not like a typical Asian with amazing SAT scores and awesome GPA. My scores and my grades are just average for everyone, not just Asians. I'm applying regular to Steinhardt. NYU is my dream school and has been for a couple of years now. I didn't apply early because I'm not comfortable with the whole binding thing because money is definitely a problem in going to NYU. I really do hope I get into NYU because I want a chance to leave the suburban city I live in in the south and go up to NYC to live the city life of the North.

Hi sharon, I'm perry and I'm from the south too, south carolina to be specific. I'm also very ready to leave the South and move to New York; I love the city and can't wait to leave my small hometown. I also applied to Steinhardt! I feel you on the test scores and such, they're definitely my low-point. But good luck to you!

Hey Sharon welcome to our little hole in the wall! The city life is good. I went upstate on monday to visit Cornell and SUNY Binghamton, both of both are in like the middle of nowhere. I think I'd go crazy if I lived somewhere isolated like that.

I'm not a typical asian with perfect scores and GPA too, lmao.

o_o

Hello. I want to attend for their new (and totally awesome) Business & Political Economy program. Too bad I will never be able to afford it unless I take out 20k+ in loans each year.

Weee.

we should have a not-typical-asian NYU group if we get in, lol.

my parents are panicking...told them that I wanna go to med school. They've gone mad!

Mad as in....happy? My parents would love me if I told them I was going to med school lmao

Mad as in angry! haha, you should've seen the look on their faces. it's literally:
":O :O :O W.T.F.?!??!?? :S :S >:| >:| :0 :0 :0 :'( WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY????? :O :O"

and I got a 2-part lecture on why going to med school is not a good idea. TWO PARTS. & that idea got made fun of the very next day. :/

what do they want you to do?

Aw why? My parents would give me their car if I told them about med school lol.

Nah, my parents wouldn't care about med school. However, my father wants me to go to the University of Texas more than anything, so I'm "supposed to pay the difference" if I go to NYU, but I know that won't happen. :) Even if it did, I wouldn't mind the debt. Education is the best thing anyone can possibly spend their money on, I believe. ESPECIALLY if it's an NYU education.

hahaha, UT is probably on par with NYU education wise...

That may be true...but the closest major I can get to what I want to do is magazine journalism, and that's not at all comparable to my options at Gallatin. Also, UT has a rep for being a party school, and that's not my style. In addition, I hate Texas. It's just not a fit.

Really, I could go on and on about it.

NYU's a party school too. But the kids are still smart. And it's NYU. :)

Yeah, well UT is THE party school. And NYU people are a little more ambitious. And yes, it is NYU. :)

xfiona...whoa. I just told my parents that I wanted to go to medical school! My mom went:
:/,:/,:#, :X. and then..."NOOOOO!!"
My dad gave me a huge lecture on how hard and how much it was going to cost especially for an international student. Like I hadn't figured it all out.
Hang in there. I'm still going to med school.
xfiona, did you apply ED to NYU?

hirokee- yep. did you? I've heard that their pre-med advising is top notch, so that's really exciting if I get in. crosses fingers

My mom: Well, at least it will be a tiny bit cheaper than England. BUT! blablablah. >:|

yeah it's really expensive, and once you graduate from med school, residency doesn't pay a lot. I feel as if that's really what I want to do though. Cliche, but it feels like a calling, ha!

good luck :)

rstlne33- they want me to study economics (which I'm already planning to) and come back and work for them. not a very appealing prospect to me (working for them part), although the $ could be really good, at least it would be much better than residency which could last up to 6 years after med school.

Aw, that's no fun. I would most definitely not ever want to work for my parents. But I want to work for a magazine or tv network/start my own company, so there's no way I would leave NYC to go back down to Texas. Do you think you'd rather want to stay in the U.S.?

I can't say for sure until after undergrad but it would be nice to stay though. Definitely better than here!

I've thought of being a journalist...but I'm too wacked out to be one, haha. So you're already planning to stay on in NYC? Everyone I know is pushing me to go to California/Oregon.

Woohoo! Officially applied to NYU - Tisch today :D Man, April can't get here fast enough...

While I'm in this thread, I gotta ask: any other internationals applying to Tisch? How are you guys doing your auditions?? I'm applying for the tech theatre track, so I don't think I have to send in a video audition, but guess I'll need to assemble a portfolio of sort or something...
