I received my admission email two days ago. Woot!
But it seems like I am in the same dilemna as a several people here.
I already got in UIUC for computer engineering, but I'm not even sure if engineering is right for me. I'm going into pre-med and business at IU, plus I've been playing my sax for almost 7 years and have been to all-state and everything. IU from what I hear has an outstanding music program, so choosing between IU and UIUC isn't going to be easy for me.

If you're not looking for pre-professional training in music, UIUC might be better for you. You'd get to play more there than at IU. On the other hand, if you don't want formal instruction, IU would be a great place to be. You'd get to hear lots of amazing music of all kinds. What style(s) of music do you play? Jazz is great at IU, as good as their classical programs from what I hear.

Sorry for being off topic, but how many more applicants, do any of you think, IU is taking this late into the admissions process?

I uh got in. Honors College. So I'll go if there's a good scholarship for me. My sats are 1450. 740 verbal 710 math. 207 psats 97 percentile with a letter of commendation from the guys that do the PSAT program. APs are all 4s. Sat IIs include Math Ic-710 and Literature 670 and others which i don't remember off the op of my head. GPA sucks though its a 2.7.

I'm in and going! Honors College, oo yay. Most importantly I'm on Direct Admit to the College of Arts and Sciences - anybody else I'll likely be seeing there? Any other Art History/Communications/Japanese students, btw?

I got in with $5,000 a year, but i'm having a hard time deciding between that and University of Wisconsin. I have a 1260 and around a 3.4. I'm hoping to get a direct admit into the business school at Indiana, i havent applied yet.. do you think i'd get in? Anyone else considering Wisconsin?

If you're talking Wisconsin at Madison, I was once considering it. A professor friend of ours is an alum and had a very successful experience there. However, upon visiting it I found it to be obscenely partial to Wisonsin natives - they even get housing preference over honors students, if I recall correctly, and the majority of scholarships which you would be applicable for are for Wisconsin residents only. It's ridiculous.

Have you visited either school?

Im also considering wisc. My descison is down 2 money now.

My decisions comes down to money too, what are the other schools your considering? I've visted both Indiana and wisconsin, my sisters at wisconsin so i've been there a couple times. I loved indiana but i'm stuck because wisconsins reputation is so much better.

I'm also looking at UT. I was admitted to UWashington but it doesnt look like i'll get enough money from them.

If you all have any questions about life at IU, or some of the majors there i'd be happy to help you all out. I'm a freshman now and have seen most of what the school has to offer.

Well, what does it hav to offer?

What do you really hate about it?
What do you love about IU?
What should we think about or do before we decide on IUB?

the business school, SPEA school, music school, and journalism are probably the best majors at the school. Theres plenty more that are good but those are the ones that are 'nationally' recognized. the town of bloomington is really cool, has lots of restaurants and bars and all that, but dont expect anything at all outside the city til you get to Indianapolis (about an hour away). the campus is really awesome and always in great condition. i imagine some of you are probably out of staters like me, and theres a ton of them for a public school (i want to say 35%?). if you are thinking about joining a frat/sorority, then this is the perfect place to do it. a lot of the events on campus seem to be centered around greek life (IU sing, dance marathon, and most importantly-Little 500). i guess thats also my biggest complaint about the school because i rushed both semesters (first for free beer, second for real) and decided its not for me, but it seems theres a lot of separation between greek and nongreek life. too many parties are set at frat houses and if you dont know anyone with an apartment off campus then you could possibly be screwed, so sticking to dorm parties is normal. anyways its hard to point to one thing as a problem at any given school, i might encounter a problem that someone else wouldnt for 4 years. thats just a little slice of life at IU, feel free to ask anything else.

hi....

Which is the best place to live (on-campus)?

I want a quiet place......no smoking/drinking/greek system.....and somewhere close to Kelley...

IU has nationally recognized english, romance languages, comparative literature, east asian studies (dalai lama's brother on faculty) and the best-regarded history and philosophy of science department in the country, in addition to the excellent programs holdontrue mentioned.

mishra-if you dont want any drinking or smoking at all then you might want to look at the wellness center at Briscoe in the northwest neighborhood. Youd be on a floor with others like you and theres also a gym on the bottom floor only for people living in that section of Briscoe. However, the biggest problems with Briscoe from my view are: its not air-conditioned, its kind of far from everything, and you have to walk to Foster or McNutt if you want to eat. You might also want to look into Collins, Foster International, or maybe a wellness center in the central neighborhood (if there is one, sorry but i know a lot about the northwest cause thats where i live now).

Oh yeah, I had direct admit to the...science? college. Whatever it is. I'm probably not going so I didn't really pay attention.

Yeah. I'm not going either. I just got a full tuition scholarship at UW-Madison, my top choice.

woah, full tuition scholarship is awesome - what are your stats? I'm still having a tough time deciding between indiana and wisconsin

I know. I am so stoked! I never thot I could get something like that.
