How many colleges are you applying?

I have 18 colleges on my lists...
and yes,,I'm thinking of applyng them all...

i have about 15-but i will narrow it down to 10/11 before i apply
when its all said and done i will have..
i have 3-4 reaches
4 matches
3 safteys

Um. Why 18?

Just so you guys know, I read an artocle on Newsday(NY newspaper) that was talking about applying to college. Some people apply to over 30 colleges!

Ask yourself this..would you really go to them all? You also have to think of application fees that are often $50+. Don't go overboard..you will hopefully naturally eliminate some of these schools from your list once you actually get into doing college research.

i havent made my list yet, but probably

Well lets see.
Like about 15 not including UC's, but that is one application for all.

Lets see, my reaches are UChicago,NU, and somewhat Tufts
Slight reaches are Vassar, Colgate, UMICH, USC, and a few more
and then i have matches.

Some UCs are my safeties.

I am applying to a lot, because my chances are really unpredicatble for many because my stats are retarted.

Great test scores, but a 3.2 freshman and sophomore year.
Junior year i started caring about school.
Got a 3.75uw, 4.2w

Next year i have more AP's and honors, but they are mostly the easiest ones in the school.
AP stat, AP gov, Honors Chem, AP lang, Ap japanese, Honors japanese

Honors Japanese will be pretty easy
AP i dunno cause it is the first year it is being taught
stat is super easy at my school
Lang like over 2/3 of the students get As, and i had friends in it and im better writers than they are.
Gov is supposedly pretty easy
chem is going to be my easiest class

i took regular last year, and now i have honors with the same teacher...and im her favorite student and she taught honors curriculum in regualr chem so basically i already took the class...and got a 97%, highest grade in the class.

But yeah
this last year i had 7 solids, 1 elective, got an A in honors spanish (pretty hard class) and only had Bs in honors pre calc (hardest honors class at my school) and AP psych (suprisingly the hardest AP class at my school...harder than Calc, and Physics.

so yeah, i have the biggest upward trend ever and it will only get bigger, so that is why im applyin to like a million schools.

I have 18 colleges on my list right now and 10 in Florida. I'm going college visiting next week though so hopefully that will narrow it down some. I'm shooting to apply to about 7-9 but we'll see!

For me, nine colleges tops, but probably in the realm of six or seven. I'm not sure if I could put in a decent amount of effort on each app with more than nine. (Even with the common app, there's still a lot of stuff to keep track of and ask teachers for recs to what schools at what times, etc...)

I'm applying to more than ten, but definitely less than fifteen. I still have to check how many of the schools I'm interested in use the common application. I'm trying to get my list down, but there are so many schools that I can't decide between. Maybe I'll have a better idea after I visit some this summer.

wow. i can see the credit card bills for you guys surpassing $500 for just applications alone..

well im 8 colleges.. 4 reaches, 4 matches

13-14...
Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT (EA), UChicago (EA), Columbia, UPenn, Brown, NYU, McGill (maybe), SUNY Binghamton (if I don't get into either of my 2 EA choices), Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins.

I may narrow it down when I realize how much work it actually is. =P

. . . wow. I'm applying to one ED (probably Oberlin), and five or six more if I don't get in (Wesleyan, Reed, Carleton, Macalester, UVM, maybe Swarthmore). No way would I do more than that.

I am probably going to limit myself to 6, maybe 7, if I don't apply ED anywhere.

I would apply to fewer, but I seem to have four categories (reach, low reach/high match, match, and safety) instead of the normal three, so I'm having trouble narrowing down my list.

I don't mean to sound preachy, but you guys really shouldn't apply to more than 12 schools.

Applying to 18 schools isn't just costly, it also hurts others. Obviously, with a list that big, there are going to be some schools on there that you're less interested in. Eliminate those. Otherwise, if you get accepted, you're taking the spot of someone else who might really want to go there.

Moral of story: if you don't have any intentions of seriously considering the school, don't apply.

To answer the question, I'm most likely applying to 9.

good stuffs guys..
hopefully we all can get into schools we want!

i was thinking of 10-13

I'm looking at 5, to be honest... it's just really not fair of me to ask teachers and counselor to fill out all those extra forms, and I want to have a life outside of college apps (the term "life" might be misleading... I want to learn Swahili).

UChicago (EA)
MIT (EA)
Princeton
Notre Dame (EA- but honestly, I'm only applying b/c I'm a super-legacy and I'd be shot if I didn't)
UMich (E-Response)

I'd love to go to any of them, but if I got into all of those top 3 I'd be in a serious pickle. I'd consider Harvard, Yale, Brown, and JHU, but since I can't visit I can't really get a feel for them- the others I can tell just from their websites that I would love the school. We'll see.
