Class of 2009 First Choice Schools

i visited Olin and i LOVED it!!!!! it's amazing how they have such a creative approach to engineering and really support their students...honestly i can not imagine a better place for me, but their stats are SO crazy!!!! i need to find some safeties :-S

I am visiting Olin in two weeks! Can you tell me about your visit? Who did you talk to (since it's summer and all)?

MIT would make my life...

Unfortunately for me, Yale. Brown and Rice are tied for second.

Wesleyan for the moment

Columbia University

Webster University in St. Louis.

Any college :P

But I kinda really see myself at Oberlin - but it's never gonna happen.

NYU or USC

i visited during spring break....it was so amazing. i definitely go for atmosphere over appearance, but olin's campus was gorgeous. i don't really know what to tell you; sometimes a school just feels right, and that was definitely what happened for me. good luck; who knows, maybe i'll see you in fall 2009 ;-)

Stanford definitely.

WashU (ED) (Olin School of Business) - The perfect fit for me. It's about a four hour drive -far enough away from home to act as a deterrent for parent visits. Olin is arguably the best B-school in the midwest (maybe second to ND's Mendoza), and the campus is awesome. Also, from what I hear, WashU is is pretty generous with finaid, which is important as I come from a low-mid class family.

Getting in could be the problem. Improving upon my 29 ACT could help a bit. Does anyone know WashU demonstrates any preference toward first gen college students? (that may help me a bit)

I think the most important thing for Wash U is demonstrated interest. Since it's often a "safety" for Ivy applicants, it wants to make sure you'll matriculate if you are accepted - hence the absurd waitlisting done for the "overly qualified."

I'm sure it counts first generation students as a hook, as do most other places. : )

YALE!- excellent music school, premiere student drama/grad. drama school. Also i know a lot of people that will be attending. I've always sort of been told by my parents that I'm going there (since my dad's an alum), and until very recently I've been relunctant to accept the fact that my parents are right. It's beautiful and I can really see myself doing a lot of great things with their abundant resources.

.... but harvard's not out of the picture ;)

Olin would be soooo awesome. :/ I've wanted it for a couple of years now...

Michigan State University:)

Turning down guaranteed acceptance at UMich :)

Changes every day...Brown is a perfect fit, but I have no shot.

Lately it's been Amherst.

Tie between USC and Chapman University...will have a first choice once I visit both.

University of Washington - Honors program! I see there's not too many state schools as top choices here...

Georgetown University
