Class of 2009 (Juniors)

Yes.
That's right.
09'ers unite.

This the thread for all the Juniors this year (including me) that'll have to go through proabaly one of the most difficult, rigorous, challenging, and important years of their life. With all the Honors/AP courses, AP Tests, ACT Tests, SAT Tests, SAT II Tests, Recommendations, ECs/Awards, Essays, and possible summer programs at stake. In some cases this year will make or break our application.

Fellow Seniors, we get it, we wish we were you guys and bask in your relaxing preseance. Please, instead of repreating that you guys have it better (we know we know already) feel free to post comments that may help us this year and in the long run.

It's time to step up and conquer this beast they call: Junior Year

Madness you say? This is not madness!

THIS

IS

SPARTA!

Don't put a ton of pressure on yourself. Stick with all of your old habits, unless they're bad ones.

DON'T PROCRASTINATE. I know you guys probably feel like we're bashing this into you, but this WILL catch up with you and it will SUCK. For some reason teachers like to load down juniors with homework/projects and if you put it off you'll never catch up.

Oooh, I'm going to be a junior.

The living hell I must go through this year:

Academically:

All honors/AP classes(obviously)

raise my GPA LIKE CRAZY, as in order to get into the top 10% of my class and have a shot at Upenn (Right now I'm top 12%) I must get a 4.0 average with all these AP's and honor classes. Must make up for a crappy 3.54 freshman year and a ok 3.8 Sophmore year.

7 AP Exams, 5 of which are self-study, 2 of which are linked to classes.

Three SAT II's; Math IIC, World History, and Physics

ACT in September, PSAT in October, SAT in January, March, and May

Convincing my Guidance Counseler I've changed my old bad ways.

AMC Test

Non-Academically:
- Working on my Davidson's Fellows project in Philosophy
- Working on my NRA Essay, JFK Profile in Courage Essay and Humanist Essay
- Continuing in my 6 clubs I'm a part of. Enjoy the labor of being a state officer for the US Public Service Academy movement, and enjoy the work involved in founding a Young Democrats chapter at school.
- Continue with volunteer activities
- Qualify for JF M+T Summer Institute or LEAD Business Summer Institute
- Get on the good side of some teachers (Most of my teachers so far I've succeeded in ****ing off) who will write good recommendations.

TO WARRRRRR!!!!!!! !!!! ! !! RAAARRRGH HG GH GH HGHHH !!!!

Seniors FTW. Class of 08

At least you're in the top 12%, I'm probably in the top 24%.

And it looks like were interested in the same things (Upenn, LEAD, Business)

I doubt I'm going to get in to those summer programs though.

You have to apply by like april which means you'll only show yout first semester junior grades. Even if I get straight A's, I'll only have ~3.7 gpa, so I don't think that'll cut it.

Right now I'm researching for internships for business. The only one for high schools students I've found is in Washington Mutual, but WaMu doesn't appeal to me. My mom has a friend at UBS and I'm going to nag my mom the whole year to ask the UBS guy if I could do anything at UBS.

I see

personally I want to try to get into the Jerome Fischer Program at Upenn even though I know its such an incredible long shot, but thats my dream right now. Hopefully though your rank will go up, what ppl like you and me should be counting on is the stress of junior year weakening the grades of a lot of the only mildly motivated students who so far have only barely snuck by with A's, and then senior year when they slack off and others work their butts off to outrank em.

I'm going to apply to prob 4 or 5 of the summer programs because I know too that its so difficult to get into a summer program that actual means something, while its easy to get into Yale Summer Session but the fact that its easy to get in makes it meaningless

I am looking forward to this year very much. Never has so much been at stake. It's like high-stakes gambling, but not. :P

I don't know if this will help rootbeercaesar, but...

I know one person who is an entering freshman at the Jerome Fischer program now at Upenn

-salutatorian of my school
-did WaMu internship for 2 years
-is in a wheelchair because of surgury (hook)
-Indian (Bengali I think)
-placed 22nd!!!! in DECA internationals (that's crazy!!! smart)

yeah it's pretty da*m tough to get in.

upcoming junior, yay!

however, my school is an incredibly easy public school with incompetent teachers and officials. So i will breeze through junior year with a 4.0 gpa(and be val), even while taking AP classes and honors.......UNFORTUNATELY....i will have to spend 4 or 5 hours a day learning most stuff on my own at home ( inorder to be ready for AP/SATII tests, AND COLLEGE!).

@funployee

o_O holy ****

all right im a junior and im not prepared at all for this year

lets do this

Bring It Baby!!!!!!

What the heck, it doesn't let me type all caps?

:(

junior-all i care about is tennis now..ive completely forgotten about anything else

i went from an 84 my first term of freshman year to a 91 the second, a 94 the first term of sophomore year, and a 96 the second term. my schools a top 10. ridiculously hard. i think my improvements my only stronghold. SO, cheers to my goal of a 98 !

yawn.
if any of you guys have money invest in a PDA. cingular's 8525 is a godsend.
i live an hour from school, so being able to start my crap during the ride there and back is amazing.

btw, its funny how we're all cc nerds. such high achievers. people at my school think im insane for taking 4 aps. and here i am finding people taking 7...
