Anyone out there recieved letter yet??? my s heard weeks ago but I don't see any posts???

My D got accepted back in January. She will be doing overnight on April 2-3.

I was wondering where all the CCers were for Wooster?? My sons friend hasn't heard anyting yet . I wonder if just the merit scholaship kids got their decisions earlier!!! Maybe we will see you at Spring visit days!!! have you been to visit the school yet??? MY husband went with my Son so I don't have any impression of the school except for what I have read! If so waht did you think???

We visited twice but for couple hours both times (for us it is easy 3 hour drive). Once in September to tour the campus and interview, then for the music scholarship audition in February and after each visit we had the feeling that this IS the place. Everybody we met seems very friendly and approachable, in my opinion kids are not very preppy.
Campus is beautiful !! Town itself, well, not a college town but very clean and I hope safe. Some stores and fast food place is in easy walking distance, even mainstreet district is accessible by foot.
So far COW is my D's first choice, but let's wait and see how overnight
will go.

We've had the same feeling about Wooster--that it feels like the right place for our daughter. She's been accepted at Kenyon, Denison, Macalester, Centre, and Earlham, all wonderful colleges, but says that her visits to Wooster have just felt special. (And from a parent's perspective, it didn't hurt that she got a nice merit award!) She loves the campus, the teachers she's met, the soccer coaches, and the idea of a senior Independent Study project. Hasn't committed yet, but I'm betting Wooster will be her final answer.

My s was aslo accepted at Denison and waitlisted at Kenyon, What do you think your daughter liked so much about Wooster compared to those 2 schools. My son is still undecided but Wooster was very genorous with merit and scholarship money . We are still awaiting Denison fin aid package but they gave him a nice Alumn award too. Decisions decisions.....

My daughter really liked the people at Wooster--the students, the teachers, the administrators, even the campus bus driver who gave us a tour of the city. It felt like a natural fit for her. Her initial impressions after good overnight visits at Kenyon, Denison, and Wooster were: the students at Kenyon seemed intellectually brightest; the Denison kids seemed friendliest and most fun-loving; the Wooster students were just right down the middle. Not this way or that. Not conservative, preppy, quirky, etc. (Although I kind of like quirky, being the old California hippy that I am, but my daughter--not so much.) She still hasn't made that final decision, but is leaning toward Wooster.

Thanks for the input!!! It does give a good perspective to actually go visit you just get a feel. I was bummed I was at a horse show that weekend and couldn't go visit the Ohio schools. Wow from California to Kentucky-talk about culture shock!!!!! I like quirky too!! I have lived in NY all my life and am ready for a change soon!! Thanks so much for you help!!!

What kind of horse show? I rode show jumpers in California--of course, a long, long time ago.

Wow!! I used to do jumpers too. I started with hunters and moved to that. Now my daughter competes in the hunters in NY, VT and PA.So I am gone a lot of weekends. She has a large green pony she is showing now. It is soo much fun, but I need to get out of this winter blah!!! I hate the cold. Hopefully she will go to a school where she can ride where it is warm!!! She is only 15-has plenty of time to think about it!!! I don't get to horseshow as much as I like, spend all I have on her right now!!! Does your daughter ride???

Alas. Neither of my girls are into horses. My older, soon-to-be college daughter has been an avid soccer player since age eight and intends to play for Wooster or possibly Kenyon. (She announced this morning that Denison has slipped to third on her list. But that changes every day.) My younger daughter (16) is a theater girl--acting, stage-managing, technical, costume design, etc. As for me, I'm currently horse-less. When my old gelding died a number of years ago, I discovered that he was simply irreplaceable. My husband and I are still in the horse business, though--he's editor of a weekly Thoroughbred publication and I'm a freelance writer. (Which explains why merit aid is so crucial to us!)

Just wanted to tell you -- my son was unsure up until the last moment. He choose Wooster and has never looked back. Matter-of-fact I wish my younger son would take a more serious look at the college. (By the way -- this was not my favorite)

Is your son a freshman at Wooster? I'm hoping that my daughter chooses it as well. She's been accepted at six other schools, all of them good, but my instincts tell me Wooster would be the best fit for her.

No. My son is a sophomore. I have met some of the girls who play soccer == they seem to be very nice. Many of the kids at Wooster have siblings at Denison. I got the idea from some of the parents that although the schools are very similar academically Denison is very much more upscale, J Crew, Abercombie versus the Gap.

I just told someone that I really like Wooster because the arrogance that is sometimes associated with kids in private schools is less apparent at COW. Most of my son's friends are extremely bright but they are not necessarily intellectual like I perceive Kenyon or Earlham kids to be -- maybe they are just not pedantic. Not sure

why would you want you d to go to wooster? she's so fortunate to get into kenyon.

I was accepted and I spent the night and visited 4 times, etc. I have a friend there and he loves it. I also loved it and received a nice scholarship. I would really reccommend it to anyone! I'm not going...ironically enough. My other top choice school that actually has the specific major I want, as opposed to a reccommended path towards such a goal, came through with more money and I just really loved the department...but if it were not for that specific interest, I would be at COW hands down. I love it and the area, it was such a hard choice to make. People there are smart and witty without being arrogant or mean. It was great, everyone was at ease and motivating his or herself.

i was admitted and visited today. i did like it, there was really a mix of all different types of people. the campus is gorgeous. i just don't know if i will go there yet. oberlin is the other school i'm mostly leaning towards, and i feel that it is more intellectual, at the same time, i feel that COW may not be so hard core liberal. and the food was really good!

Our family visited both Wooster and Oberlin (as well as Dennison & Kenyon) a few years ago. We definitely felt the pervasive liberal ideology at Oberlin. A comparison of the school newspapers at each school was a telling sign.

We loved Wooster, but alas our son decided he wanted to stay on the West Coast. So now he's at a school with dorms overlooking a cliff on the Pacific Ocean. It's a tough gig!!

I'm a 2010 admit as well. At the moment I'm still trying to make the tough decision between wooster (in state, would graduate debt free) or williams (east coast, wayyyy more expensive...) My dad's a wooster alum, and loves the school with a passion. i think I've just spent too much time on campus. I kind of feel like going there wouldnt be much of an adventure since I've already spent parts of 3 summers on campus. who knows though... I guess I'll make a decision sooner or later

Just curious, Rhapsodynshadow, how does Wooster being in-state have anything to do with graduating debt-free? The tuition is the same for in or out of state, right?
