Class Of 2010 Dormsss

for all the 2010ers out there, what is your 1st, 2nd choice in dorms for next year?? doubles? suites? just out of curiosity...

I actually have no idea - when I visited, I had absolutely no intentions of going there, because a school that I prefer had also accepted me. Ultimately, I got more money from LC, so, that's where I'm going, but, I didn't pay enough attention on the tour! So, I'm currently researching dorms on the web. Do you have any preferences?

EDIT: after looking at the information on the website, I'm leaning a little toward Newman Towers, but, ultimately, they all look nice enough, so, it's not a big deal to me.

well i checked out a couple of them on the tour, but i forget what their names were. i just remember hearing different things from the people who were currently living there. when we saw the doubles (hopkins maybe? or butler?) i remember some girls saying that you get more of the "experience" living there...because its all freshman and the dorms are traditional doubles where its two to a room. they said that you bond better that way because everyone in the dorm are freshman, so its easier to branch out and meet new people. when we visited newman tours and one of the other dorms, they were suites...and the people there said that the suite set-up is better because your not stuck living with a single room-mate. plus, your dispersed in a residence hall with upperclassmen so you have connections to parties/events...and older people to help you adjust. the doubles seemed a little more quiet and adjustment-oriented...the environment seemed nurturing and friedly with all the advisors everywhere and the bright painted walls. the suites seemed a little more lively, and more of the "social" place to be, esp. since one of the main dining halls is also located in the towers. but all in all, every dorm i checked out seemed in tiptop shape, clean, spacious, well maintained...etc. so i guess the rest of it is preferential...but i'm also leaning toward the towers. i know they do dorming on a first come- first serve basis, so i hope i get a spot :/ apparently we fill the housing stuff out at orientation (one of the3 available dates), so it kinda sucks for the people who pick the very last date because they might not get their first choice. anyways, i think i wanna live in the towers too but we'll see what happens...

We were told that first come was based on when you sent your Deposit in, not when you go to Orientation. That seems more fair when you think about it. My D liked Hopkins Hall which were doubles just over the Bridge. It is a "quiet" dorm but is near the Towers and the "party" scene.

actually...i think when you send the deposit in they "reserve" housing for you...meaning they account for you when they make sure every freshman is guarenteed housing...however, i believe orientation is when you CHOOSE your housing...so that is first come-first serve. the kids at the earliest orientation get first pick. all the dorms are nice though, so i guess its still a win/win situation...

CapeCod, I called Loyola to settle this one. They said that there is no preference given to Housing based on the Orientation session you attend. They agreed to do that would be unfair. The date of the Deposit check is important like I said because that is where the "first come, first served" comes in. However , this is not a big issue because you should be able to get in the Housing situation you want because there is plenty of Housing available and hopefully everyone is happy. They emphasized that it is important to answer the Housing survey truthfully and honestly to get a good roommate.

Is it true that Hopkins is one of the quieter dorms, as far as parties and what not goes?

Yes Hopkins is the quiet dorm with a zero tolerance policy for alcohol and drugs which technically should be true in all Freshman dorms. Honors College students live on the first floor and there is a library on the top floor. This is the dorm my D chose beacuse she doesn't drink.

Yes, I'm going to go for Hopkins as well.
