class of 2010 ED congratulations

congratulations to those who got accepted ED!!!!

I'm applying RD and wondering if it is easier to get into Fu Engineering or Col College?

I heard that Columbia is one of the hardest school to get in, aprt from harvard and priceton...even harder than yALE, uPENN, Brown and Dartmouth, is that true?

How about the culture, friendly with smiling faces OR just nerds around with stressful competitions....could those junior and senior colubians share their stories with us........thanks

from what ive heard, they're both hard to get in2, but thats not what u should think about applying to one of teh schools. look at the programs they offer and see what interests you before u apply.

Jz is right. Don't apply to a school based on which is easier to get in. I know tha these answers are fustrating because you just want an answer to your question and when you do some research you might see that Fu Engineering has a higher percentage acceptance rate. Before you decide Fu is easier, check the average SAT of Fu against CC. Then check the percentage in the top ten in CC. I'm not saying that Fu is harder, but just trying to keep you from playing the college game. There is no method to beat the system. Might as well apply to a school that fits you.

They're both hard. Do you want to be an engineer or not? I think Columbia's admissions rate was the 3rd lowest in the Ivy league at some point, so I guess you're right. They're all hard to get into, though.

No, Columbia isn't full of nerds and isn't competitive at all.

SEAS has a higher acceptance rate, but its harder to get in. Does that make sense? i guess not..

weirdnrandom... it's not harder to get in. Just check the stats of the ED acceptances to CC versus the stats of the ED acceptances to SEAS. SEAS is less selective; although it has had a slightly higher range of SAT scores in the past, generally it is easier to be accepted into SEAS (provided you have the right math/science qualifications) in terms of extracurricular activities and such. I've heard that excellent scores and GPA nearly secure a spot at SEAS, while the College is more of a crapshoot and other aspects of the applicant besides numerical stats also need to be outstanding.

So what will you guys call yourself now?

"Columbians"? Or what's the name of Columbia students?

Sub. I've never thought of it like that. I suppose SEAS is easier to get into because they focus on grades. Althought in my case I know that my extracurricular saved me so it once again goes back to your whole application. Columbia is hard to get into. End of Story.

I don't think SEAS focus strongly on grades. although a strong math/science background for engineering can never be bad. my grades are way below their average, but I do have some pretty time consuming ECs... most of them arn't even related to engineering.

I think SEAS tries to look at the whole applicant just like CC, only difference is SEAS would look for a stronger background in math/sciences to make sure you cna handle the math/science courses at SEAS.

Overall, I do think that SEAS is easier to get into, except the median sat scores are scary.
I agree with lynda with the math/science courses. My sat verbal was 570! I bet nobody at columbia scored lower than that. Funny thing is both of the columbia admits last year from my school scored below a 600 on verbal.
