Class of 2010 Girls Applying - let's get to know each other!

Recently, Bryn Mawr has become my top, top pick…I wish I had decided this earlier so I could apply ED! oh well. let’s get to know one another, if anyone else is applying here:)

Hi, I’m Sarah, I will probably be majoring in the Classics. Anyone else applying RD? Is anyone else sending in an arts supp.?

hi im a boy
im from africa and im so lost from info about american colleges

im sorry, bryn mawr is all girls!
haverford is similar/related though!

I'm a guy....

Hey, how you doin'?

(Really pathetic, I know. It's late......)

wow, this is totally not what i intended at all for this post.
i didn't even know guys read the bryn mawr board?
sr, are you applying to haverford or something?

No I am not, but,

Hi How you doin'?

iamnotabronte, Bryn Mawr is also my first choice but I'm applying ED.

um... is it too late to apply ED now? Maybe you can still try and get it done before the Nov 15 deadline.

Anyways, what makes you interested in Bryn Mawr? Just wondering :P
It is my first choice because I really enjoyed my visit.

t33881121 -
It's location, amazing Classics program, challenging classes, traditions, friendly students, supportive environment, and I really love the honor code.:)
I hope we perhaps we will be classmates next fall!
I hope my 31 on the ACT is good enough and that my alumna interview goes well...I am nervous! Have you interviewed yet?
Where are you from? I am from Kentucky.

iamnotabronte-

it seems like we love BMC for similar reasons (maybe except for the Classic program, I don't really know what I'm going to major in)

Even with my limited knowledge on the ACT exams, I know that 31 is a fantastic score. Good for you! :D

Yes I had my interview already...during the summer actually. I'm not sure what is a "good interview" but I enjoyed mine. It doesn't feel like a formal interview at all; it's almost like a chat. So don't be nervous, your interview will be fine.

I'm from Beijing.

that's awesome!
i'll let you know how it goes:)
do you know anyone else who is applying?
you have to let me know how it turns out for you ED!

I'm applying to Bryn Mawr for '10 [RD]. I already had an interview and it went GREAT. My interviewer was amazing and she made me fall in love with the school so much more. When you're asked about ECs, mention ONE that you are ABSOLUTELY in love with and then another that you're just involved with. Go into detail about the one you're in love with.. they'll love that. Also, ask as many questions as possible, and when asked what your favorite book is, don't name something that's on the 6th grade level. You can PM me for interview tips, if you have not yet interviewed.

I'd really like to visit the campus sometime soon; my interviewer said the easiest way is by car, followed by Greyhound. I REALLY, REALLY want to go and stay over-night or visit a class, but my parents won't be able to drive me due to their work schedules. It's convenient to go via Greyhound for me.. so I think I will. Have any of you gone yet; if so, what type of transportation did you choose?

Awesome!:) From what you said, maybe my interview didnt go so horribly after all. Is it your first choice school?

Yes, it is. I REALLY hope I get in. However it was, I'm sure it went fine. When was your interview?

Did you do an alumane interview or an adcom one on campus? I did an alumnae interview and found that my interviewer and I connected on many levels-- she was a French major, and minored in eco. I want to minor in French, but major in social sciences, so she went on about that for quite a bit. She likes knowing another language, and she said the FL department at BMC is a group of the most supportive people on Earth. She loved the smallness, but likes being able to go to bigger schools, like U Penn. Before she even mentioned that, I had told her that I LOVED that aspect of the college [points?, haha]. She, at first, DESPISED Bryn Mawr, and wanted to go to another liberal arts school, Connecticut College. I also despised Bryn Mawr, up until this last summer, I also wanted to go to another liberal arts college [Wellesley], I now do not really like Wellesley, but LOVE Bryn Mawr. She gradually gained love for the school, however, and I'm in love with the school myself. How did YOUR interview go?

Are you applying to any of the other still-existing seven sisters?

No, Bryn Mawr is the only 7-sister I am applying to, and I love it so much. Our class color would be dark blue --- sigh!:)

I'm applying to Bryn Mawr, but I'm applying RD. If I were to go, I'd probably double-major in East Asian Studies and Romance Languages - I love learning foreign languages! lol

But Bryn Mawr isn't my number one, and I'm applying to one other women's college: Mount Holyoke. I was wondering, though, for those who picked Bryn Mawr as #1, why you did? I know that I'm a little wary about going to an all-girls school, though I'm not completely against it.

o, and iamnotabronte = cool name! I love the Bronte sisters' works!

thanks - wuthering heights is my favorite!

I think I already said this above, but I am prospective classics major so the amazing classics program at bryn mawr is what first inspired me...then when I continued to read more and more about it, it made me realize how amazing it truly was. The honor code, traditions, proximity to a huge amount of opportunities [like in Philly], supportive and creative environment with rigorous academics...it is my ideal place!

I am applying RD, too, but only for financial reasons. I am really glad this board is active again!:) yay Prospective Mawrters! Did anyone else send in a creative supplement?

just wondering- i'm asking everyone this- what kinds of questions do they ask you in the interview?

Diane

I had my BMC interview last summer, and the questions were pretty general. I remember answering "What do you do outside of class?"
, "What courses are you taking?" and "What did you like about your highschool?". I think its important for you to think of something to focus on and make sure you manage to express it during the interview.
For me, I didn't give her a list of my activities (I'm involved in X club, Y society...etc) but concentrated on the highlight on my favorite activity. Also, at the end of the interview, I made it clear that I would like to continue with that activity in college.

I'm not sure whether my interview was successful or not, but it was definitely better compared to my other interviews...

In one of my interviews at another college, the admission officer asked the same question concerning what did I like about my highschool. I told her I enjoyed being in a global community with so many countries represented. The diversity makes classes interesting, for example, people providing facts about their home country that might have supported or contradicted with the textbooks.

She then asked me, how is it possible for us to remember so much about our home country if we've been living in a foreign country for so long?

Well...even though I tried to explain most international students return to their home country during summer/winter breaks, so we're not THAT unfamiliar with what's going on, the interview sort of went downhill after that...

hi everyone! i'm applying in the first ED round (Nov. 15th deadline). it's so neat to read how much all of you like Bryn Mawr--i absolutely love it! are any of you planning on taking classes through the BMC-Haverford Education program? i'm planning on being a teacher, and the program seems really great.

hey! welcome to the board!:) If I am accepted, I will be a Classics major, so I will probably take most of my classes at Bryn Mawr and maybe some at UPenn. Keep us updated how ED goes for you! Perhaps we will be classmates next year!
