Calculus starts this evening for me, the teacher is apparently a graduate student and very hard to understand :(

I start school on Monday. :|

Holy crap another completely off topic video but this is a chat thread.

[YouTube - Patricia Heaton Fails at Math - Funny - Who Wants to be a Millionaire (High Quality/Original)](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WybeLYArlXQ&feature=popular)

That just goes to show how low our country is going in Math and Science (in terms of the average person) :(

I didn’t know the answer. I’m terrible at math anyway.

I’ve always thought that we were better at math and science than, well, other things. Or is the U.S. lacking in a lot of things, and that’s why I’ve thought that? Hmm…

I do think the U.S. is lacking in the foreign language department. Nobody seems to know how to speak more than one language…except for on this site, but that’s to be expected, I guess.

No it shows nothing other than the fact that she is a dumb ______ who is making money for her looks.

The U.S. is one of the top math and science nations in the world. Look at all the stuff we have invented. Look at our medical care etc.

It is true that less Americans speak other languages compared to other countries. However, this is simply due to our status as the world’s elite. There is very little need for us to learn other languages. The language of business is English. And we aren’t surrounded by a bunch of other countries that speak a different language. Europeans are pretty much forced to learn other languages.

Saying the U.S. is slacking is always the “in” thing to do. However it’s incredibly stupid. We are the hardest working 1st world country in the world. We work longer hours and more days than any Europeans countries. We dominate pretty much every facet of the world’s economy. Our businesses are obviously dominant. People all over the globe eat at McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, and other American fast food joints every day. I can’t even think of a foreign food chain that I have ever eaten at. (And no, Burger King was created in America.) But it’s not just food. You buy an American computer. Ipods are American. And your Nike sneaks? Your jeans? How do you search the internet? The bottom line is U.S. businesses destroy the international competition. Think of how few foreign companies we purchase from. Sony (PS3), car companies, and some other stuff. But it’s limited. Now, are manual labor jobs being outsourced? Sure. Does that eliminate some blue collar jobs here? Yep. But at the same time we are creating cushy well paying jobs through the exploitation of incredibly poor workers in China, India, and other developing countries. We might not be doing as much manual labor as we have in the past but lol @ thinking we are a lazy country. Europeans are content with their position in life. However we work long and hard hours to make sure we are the ones who have the power to exploit the rest of the world.

I do have to agree that Americans work hardest in the world. My mom’s job is proof of that. Her company works with other divisions in other countries in Europe and South America (and Mexico) and the American division is the one that puts in the most hours/effort. Although all those other countries seem perfectly content.

As for the language thing, considering we have so many other nationalities, it’s strange that there isn’t more of a push to learn other languages. I mean, it’s all well and good that English is the language of business. But other countries make the effort (for the most part) to learn English. I think we should make more of an effort, too. English isn’t the only language in the world, after all. And it’s useful to learn another language. I wish I would’ve known French when I went to Paris.

There are some places that do this wonderfully. The Quebec Region of Canada is bilingual in French and English. I was surprised–everyone spoke French, and they spoke it first. But if there was English needed they could speak that as well.

And on a more personal level, it would be pretty cool to know more than one language.

This might not be as coherent as I like. It’s late, and it was terribly hot today.

The prof at my local college was impossible to understand, so I’m taking calc through EPGY

Getting nervous with summer work! F

Another bad thing about senior year: I think my favorite teacher left the school. I hope that’s wrong, but after everything that happened this year it seems that it isn’t.

I have a meeting with my guidance counselor over colleges tomorrow.

First day was just horrific. =/

so who else hasn’t started senior year yet?

Moi. I start school September 1.

I haven’t and I don’t want to.

School starts September 9th.

Ugh, I started Tuesday. In a twisted way, I’m kinda happy to be back.

Darn, I’m already starting school
I can’t understand why some schools starts earlier than the other… Does this relates to the School’s district ?
