zaphod,
That is so sweet! I know your daughters are probably still pretty young, but in the future when they are looking at colleges, would you consider sending them to USNA if they were interested?

My daughters are only 4 and 5 (almost 5 and 6), but I already know the answer.

My daughters will attend whatever college THEY want to go to, provided it can be afforded. I will not push them one way or the other; I'll simply answer their questions with the truth and let them decide.

It's their mother that worries me. She never graduated from college and insists that they will go to college near home. Idiot.

If one or both of my girls decide to attend USNA or any service academy, I will be extremely proud. Just the thought of being there when they toss their covers on graduation day has brought a tear to my eye more than once.

"Idiot."

I don't know why, but I found that hilarious.

I wish the best to you and your family.

<-- interesting post number

nice, after being lectured, i know what you're talking about dbluecap and of course, so does Zaphod

Ah, but Zaphod, it is not proof of "our nation going into the toilet"! It is an example of PASSION, of dedication, of being part of something greater than oneself...through thick and thin, ultimate loyalty...

I will give you props for the Bush/Cheney hat though; you might be able to redeem yourself a little with that. I will be the first to admit that we need more of that in Boston.

So Spidermom, I know you're from CT, but are your kids Sox fans too, even though you're living in Texas? If so, you're doing something right! Ahhhh, spring training started! So excited!!

Oh yeah, the kids were raised right. The little one (just turned 7) is the real passionate one. She cried about Damon. We see the Sox every time they come to Arlington. Planning on being there when the Sox arrive for opening day.

Zaphod, true fans don't blame Billy Buck, they blame Calvin Schiraldi.

You're going???? Awwww, no fair! I don't know which games I can get tickets to this year, but what consoles me is that Fenway is so close that I can just go for runs around it and 'feel' the excitement. The track team does that during the big games anyway, lol.

I hope you'll be totally decked out in Sox stuff. I bet it'll be a wicked awesome game!

^^ oh and Damon sucks at life.

Agreed! :D

Zaphod, my respect for you increased 1000000000000000000000000% upon learning that you are both a Mac user and a Yankee fan.

I'm darn' good-lookin', too! ;)

:D

Hey Zaphod, I'm sorry if I missed this somewhere (and that I'm interrupting the feud), but what branch of the Navy did you serve in?

Surface Warfare

USS DALE (CG-19)
USS THOMAS S GATES (CG-51)
FCTCLANT Dam Neck

Short stint aboard ARA DRUMMOND of Argentina as a translator.

Are our personal notebook computers permitted? or are we only allowed to have the issued system?

For Plebe Year, I'd recommend sticking with what's issued.

You don't want to attract that kind of attention.

I'm thinking about taking my laptop to NAPS (after Indoc of course) does this sound reasonable? When i visited i saw a few people with them.

Don't know. Sorry.

When I was there, our rooms were completely non-computer friendly. Nowadays, with a new building and all that, anything is possible. NAPS doesn't seem to be nearly as laid back about some things as it was in my day, though.

I would definitely wait until AFTER Indoc, regardless.
