What do you plan to start applying to universities? Reason? Which universities are more likely your first ones to fill a application for?

I'm debating when I should start applying. I would like to apply early, and get a response early. Though looking at my junior year, I may do more well applying in October. Also knowing, I've heard negative things about Early Admission/ Rejection.

Universities I plan to send applications to ( more so a must):
1. Michigan State University
2. University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
3. ( Big Ten Universities)
. Arizona State University
. University of Arizona
. University of Colorado- Boulder

ED isn’t a bad route if you have your heart and eyes set on a university/college. More and more people are doing ED because of the increased percentage in getting accepted. But increased percentage comes with a more competitive applicant pool.

If you see your self as a strong candidate, go for it!

It never hearts to start applying early/working on application, ie: essays.

Some schools may give you an upper hand if you send in the application earlier. I know I’ll be able to fill out all the basic information and such early, probably in the summer, just because I like doing that sort of stuff :)

What I am going to try to do is get my essays done in the summer, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to do that.

D’s prep school is screaming to get essays done in summer. Then essays are handed over to writing counselors in September for editing

D’s scheduled last two weeks of summer for application paperwork.

Hopefully a bulk out the door by October, ED, EA, Rolling or just plan “apply early”.

Two years ago only 47% of students submitted early fall applications. Last year 82% did.

The Engineering Admissions page on Umich has a bold red banner across the middle of the page “apply early.” Webb wants all applications by November, and Olin had a firm cut off of December 1. In the engineering world, early fall is becoming the norm.

The up side - that leaves the rest of your Senior year for those more challenging senior classes, seminars and independent studies. And Plays, And Sport.

I’m applying early decision to NYU and early action to U of Miami, UMass Amherst, and Northeastern.

So I need to get as much of those applications done over the summer as I can. I’ll start to plan them out as soon as I get out of school (the 15th).

I’m going to try to write all of my essays over the summer. I will also completely finalize my list and EA/RD plan. I will probably wait to fill out the application parts until late summer or early fall.

I’m starting my Com App when it comes out and I’ll do a lot of my COAF. So that’ll be part of my summer. I’m applying to five-ish schools in the first round (my list is on my iPod, and it’s in the other room. I forget now) and I’ll be really busy once school starts back on Aug. 11th and my ECs start in September, so I want to get that done now.

One of the common app essay choices is “a topic of your choice.” Also, the essay topics can repeat from year to year and you could always just throw ideas on paper early even if you don’t know the actual prompt.

I’ll probably do essays over the summer. The only school I’m applying to EA as of now is MIT so I’ll work on that app when it gets released.

I’m going to be really busy over the summer so I probably won’t start them until I go back to school. However, if I get a good idea for an essay I’ll try to at least get a draft down so I have stuff to work with when I start applying.

I have a lot of summer work too, but I’m going to do my essays and complete as much of the CommonApp as I can in July.
Applications I’m going to start on:

Maryland
Stanford
Pomona
University of San Francisco

I’m also applying to Questbridge, so I’ll start on their app when it comes out in August.

When does the common app come out? ill probably fill that out as soon as it does
EDIT: July 1st. Ill begin essays, resumes, and statements then too
