EVALUATION changed to DECISION on 11/27
'You have been admitted to Ohio State "

OK, let’s get this thread started. Who’s next?

Congratulations. It's about time OSU started accepting people.

I was admitted =)

It's my first acceptance, and it's really relieving knowing I'll have a place to go next year!

Does anyone know when we get notified about the Honors program?

Congratulations! How long did the process take from when the status first said "Evaluation"?

Thanks

Well I submitted my app on Nov19 and never checked my status until I opened this thread

They're pretty quick!

Is it a state law that Ohio State has to accept all in-state applicants???

My app was complete in early October. I think they just started releasing decisions this week.
No idea when they'll send an official letter/packet.

Mandizz-what college did you apply to?

I got a phone call last night at around 8:30 from a student in admissions to tell me I was accepted. I finished my app in early Oct as well.

Congrats to everyone!

Master tang - of course not! I'm not sure there's a law that ANY in-state college has to accept all in-state applicants. Community colleges do just because they are interested in keeping their business up more than their rankings.

But no, OSU does not accept even most in-state applicants anymore. I went to a competitive college prep school, and I knew a few people who were rejected from OSU. Granted, they may have had terrible grades and test scores (I never asked), but they had to have had above a 2.0 to stay at my school, and definitely weren't stupid or anything. OSU is getting more competitive each year.

the people who got in..what were your stats like?

Got the call to arms yesterday.
29 ACT
3.6ish weighted

mute -- here's my stats prof: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profiles/member_stat_view.html?user_id=64890

but basically:
29 ACT (12 writing), 3.80UW/4.00+W GPA, a few ECs, good essays and recs.

I got my letter, first one.

I sent my app late October. I thin the 27th.

I am so excited! Ironically, last night I had a nightmare that I got rejected, then I had to work at the Zoo and commute to the Newark campus. It was kind of unsettling.

I'm kind of worried about the whole Honors program thing, since the acceptance letter was just like "You're accepted!" and had a pamphlet, and that was it.

Stats: 4.08 weighted GPA (will go continue to rise), 32 ACT, 2240 SAT, a bunch of ECs.

^^^ dude, I have almost your exact same stats. I applied to the honors program as well. Don't worry, I guarantee you made it in honors.

Congratulations! With those scores, you shouldn't have been worried at all but ...getting that admission is such a HUGE relief! My kid has gotten admitted to the University of Pittsburgh but is still waiting for PA State, and has been admitted to Ohio University amd the University of Toledo (pre-pharmacy) but is waiting to hear from OSU.

My kid is worried about going to a huge university, and wonders if a school with 10,000-20,000 students might be better. I tend to think that big schools offer a correspondingly larger number of opportunities, and that a school that is large at age 18 is just the right size at age 20-21-22. We live in Western PA, and I have a pretty good idea of the quality of education offered by PA schools. I don't have a feel for the Ohio schools, though. Is there a huge difference between the educational reputation of OSU and Toledo and Ohio University? My kid is interested in majoring in the biosciences.

D just got her acceptance message when she checked her status tonight! So far it's OSU and Penn State-University Park...the rest of the decisions will have to wait until March. She's really relieved to know that she already has a choice.

Quick stats: OOS, SAT 2050, ACT 29, GPA 3.98

Congrats to everyone who's been accepted!:-)

To neonzeus: I am a freshman Honors student this year at OSU, and although I was intimidated by the size at first glance, I remembered back to freshman year of high school when, coming from a tiny grade school, I was scared by the crowds of people shoving through the hallways. By senior year, the school felt small and comfortable. So, I figured that OSU, which seemed a little overwhelming when I visited last April as a 17-year-old, would be accordingly more comfortable by the time I was 21. Little did I know that it would only take a few months, not a few years!

I love it here, and it really doesn't seem that big (except during football Saturdays!). I can't leave my dorm without running into people I know. And finally, the size does provide incredible opportunities.

To a previous post about Ohio school's reputations:

I am from Toledo, so I can only attest to the reputations of UT and OSU. I'm not sure about OSU's pharmacy program in particular, but I know that we are pretty well regarded in basically every discipline, though if you want to be a famous artist or musician, I would not recommend coming here. UT's pharamcy program is the only thing worth noting; apparently they are very well ranked in pharmacy, but not in anything else. There may be exceptions in a few departments I don't hear about, but honestly, UT accepts (basically) anyone with a high school degree. The extracurriculars are half-hearted and the classes are so-so. I have about twenty friends from my school attending there, and while most of them are enjoying their freedom from their parents, I never hear anything positive about the school itself.

OSU, on the other hand, has many happy students. We also have many drunk students, but that's definitely not a prerequisite to having fun. The school is highly regarded among most professions (I mean, it's no Harvard or UChicago, but it's definitely one of the more prestigious "state schools"), and there are a million and one things to do each weekend. Everyone I've talked to loves it here and doesn't want to leave. My Alternative Winter Break leaders are trying to add majors so they can stay longer. I'm already looking into an MPH program to stay here an extra year.

Velaen-

Your post was great.

I may have a t-shirt made:

OSU

We have many happy students.
We have many drunk students.

I thought they will give you something about honors program AFTER you've been admitted? HUH HUH HUH?
