I didn't go to NASS. I only applied to NASS because I was bored one night, and they sent me my acceptance after the money was due. I never even contacted admissions to tell them I wasn't going. I only applied for one nomination (presidential), and I wrote my essay in about 20 minutes. Basically, I didn't even want to go to USNA until this winter. I have no idea how I got in, besides divine intervention(I ended up praying alot)...Moral of the story, make it easy on yourself and put some effort into applying. Also if you don't go to NASS, you can still get in. One more thing, don't worry so much about the statistics and getting in and all that, just enjoy high school, I wish I did more of that.

danbrernn,
Your post and attitude are very upsetting. There are so many young men and women who have wanted this for years and have worked their ***** off for an appointment to the academy and are still waiting to hear with fingers crossed. Please try to remember this the next time you choose to post.

I was using myself as an almost anti-example...I was lucky, and I was trying to let future applicants know that they really need to put their best into the application, even if they don't know if they want to go to a school. I was planning on going to USAFA until I was DQed for medical reasons this fall, and I thank God every day for allowing me the opportunity to go to USNA. I made the mistake of not working hard to provide myself with options, and when I decided that I did want to go to USNA(after my app was in), I beat myself up for months waiting for an appointment. Also, just because I didn't work hard on the application, doesn't mean I didn't work for stellar grades and good ECAs throughout high school.

Jeremiah, Nick, and Brendon (all people from california), is there any way I could email any of you so we could talk about the application process and nominations and all that sort of stuff.
thanks

I completly understand how you are using yourself as a.... well... a negative example. Though I do agree with 2011USNA how you did have a crappy attitude when your filling out your apps, but I completly admire the fact that you did come around and you now have a positive attitude about attending the academy, am I right? Hey, when I was a sophomore in high school, I wanted to go to West Point, but I soon fell in love with the water, and I decided that the Naval Academy was the right place for me. Yah, I might not be one of those people who has been wanting to go to USNA for my entire life, but I have been one who has wanted to join the military and serve for as long as I remember. As long as you know that within 5 years, your going to be an officer in the Marine Corps or the Navy, and as long as you have that desire to serve and be apart of something bigger than yourself, then you should be just fine. You have to have that mentality if you are going to the Academy, if not, then you might find yourself DORing (Drop on Request). Im glad your going, and I hope to see you June 26! Or 27th... its sometime around there. And enjoy your senior year! That is not a joke!

Take care bud...

2011!! RAH!

I applied to summer seminar but wasn't accepted. It was very dissapointing, but my BGO interview gave me a lot of hope because he said that I was a great candidate.

Try not to stress too much if you are not accepted to NASS...

NASS is not a guarentee of an appointment when the time comes, and many who get appointments never went to NASS...so try and keep things in persepctive. Continue to work hard on grades and getting all your ducks in order.

An alternative to NASS is attending one of the USNA sports camps offered over the summer, in just about every sport. It is a great opportunity to stay on the yard and see things for yourself- so if you can, do.
