Hey! am somewhatnew to cc and an aspiring ED applicant from nigeria. Yah anuva international. So jus wantd to slip in to the community. Also a band "geek" - play the flute and trumpet.

Say, how many of you guys are from a private or "competitive" public HS?

I'll admit it, i go to a pretty mediocre, medium-sized public high in nowhere. I'm a little worried that i won't stand a chance next to the sons/daughters of such and such phd who went to cambridge prep school.

yeah I'm almost in the same shoes as u are Clendenenator...

Sure am from a private school... BUT... .it's in Nigeria. Sure they wont see it as prestigious or nething. But from what Princeton says on its site, I do not think they consider your School alone. I belive they try to find out how you used the opportunities at your school to the fullest. And if u excelled scholarly at your High school.

I'm from an international school in Taiwan but I'm a US citizen, so I'll be in the same application pile as all you American domestic students.

Clendenenator, I actually think you stand a better chance at a mediocre public high than somewhere like Andover or Exeter. I know a couple people at Andover and one of them pointed out a good fact to me that not all of them could get in to HYPMS -- after all, colleges don't want a class full of Andover/Exeter students. They want a variety in their student body, so in a weird way, you might actually stand a better chance than those preppies.

On a completely unrelated note, any cellists in here? =p

Yeah, but the sad thing is i'm in NY state. I live in a place that's more hick than nebraska, but they will see NY and put me up against stuyvesant kids from NYC. ARGH.

I go to a top 40 public HS (once top ten) and my grade happens to be one of the brightest in years (22 NMSF), which makes it tough! Plus I happen to have found out that 8 people are applying ED to Princeton!

well... good luck, arbiter.
as far as I know, there are only two Germans (including myself) applying ED. kudos to me, I have memorized half of Kaplan's U.S. history over the past weekend. sat in october, three weeks time to prepare for three subject tests in november + rest of app + school.

Error with Family Connection: Naviance that posted the class of 2007 application information online. I don't have all the names, but I know that the person likely to be Valedictorian is among them (Cum Laude induction is tomorrow).

OMG LIKE 10 PPL ARE ED'ING FROM MY SCHOOL!!!!

OMG!

lol anyone know how much this affects chances??
i know that Princeton declares that "no one will be barred from admission soley because of the number of applicants from his/her school..." but im sure they dont want to accept like 10 ppl from one place, maybe due to geographic diversity, etc... and stuff like that

Gosh I thought I was unlucky, with 3 others applying to Princeton ED. But 2 of them are legacies, which is pretty intimidating... and no more than one person has ever been accepted to Pton from my school... oh well, I guess we all have stuff to complain about.

Wow, it looks like I am pretty lucky then...only one from a decent public in a small town in MA. There is one girl applying RD, but only me ED.

The only downfall is that last year's male AP State Scholar went to my school, which is an amazingly ridiculous achievement considering that we aren't a private school or anything. So if they remember him, I'm toast.

I think I would also fall under the category of "extraordinarily lucky"...no one else from my school is applying to Pton ED and I only know of one who is applying RD (keep in mind that I go to a small private school and my class has 55 people!). I am very happy that my closest "competition" wants totally different things in a school than I do, and so we have no overlaps! Sorry if I make anyone here annoyed--if it makes you feel any better, I am a white girl from CT with no legacy and I'm not a recruited athlete. So basically, I can use all of the help I can get!

Top 5 public school in nation, poor and urban. I am only one applying to Ptown ED, not even anyone is planning on RD I think, and a legacy. I'm hoping all of this helps..
