**Class of 2011 GWU RD Decisions**

I'm from Maine. I don't have time for stats right now (I have a speech to write!) but I'll post them later. The acceptance rate seems to have significantly dropped since last year...on the offer of admission it said they accepted 2,350/19,000 which is about 12%, compared to last year's 38%. Just thought that was interesting.

Was your acceptance in a large white cardboard envelope? Because I have one sitting here, but my D is not here to open it. I am in NJ.

Yup, that should be it.

Do you think GW is sending out rejections after acceptances?

There's no way that 12% figure could be correct. Maybe 2,350 is the size of the freshman class? If so, they accept way more than that since not everyone who is accepted ends up attending.

Well, it says "The University's freshman class of 2,350 was chosen from over 19,000 applicants." It's seems crazy to me too...I guess they mean the class but why would they word it that way? Just to make you feel more special?

Decision: Accepted

General:

College/Major Applied To: Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, Russian Language

Honors/Scholarships: no

Stats:

SAT I or ACT: 1260/1910

GPA: 4.2 weighted

Rank: top 11%

APs/IBs: 1 AP, 5 honors

Other stats (Awards, etc.): 2005 regional russian olympiada winner, russian national honors society

Subjective:

ECs: history club, strings club, russian elementary school teacher, county orchestra

Essays: i think they were pretty good

Recs: awesome

Location/Person:

State or Country: new jersey

School Type: public

Ethnicity: caucasian

Gender: female

Strengths/Weaknesses: strengths - languages, history, english; weaknesses - math and science

Why you think you were accepted/wait-listed/denied: i dont know, i didnt think i would be accepted

Attending? not unless the financial aid notification comes later on...its way too expensive. I'll probably be going to American

Well the total number of undergraduates is 9700. If you divide by four you get exactly 2425. That means that they are talking about enrollment and not acceptances.

I'm in New York as well, I have not received anything at all....

got the acceptance paket 2day. they offered me a 15,000$ presidential scholarship

"The University's freshman class of 2,350 was chosen from over 19,000 applicants."
That is certainly number of enrollees - not the number of acceptances which is probably about 4K.

BTW, anyone else for Elliott??

The acceptances are definately over 4k. I'll guess between 6-7k

ahhh I want one lol did anyone from Ohio receive anything?

Well that's a misleading statement then. Oh well, I'm just excited to get my first acceptance. 3 months is a long wait...

to anyone accepted: was the acceptance packet mailed express or priority?

On an interview, earlier in the year, the Dean of Admissions said there was going to be a 37% admit rate

Decision: Accepted

[] Recs: Very good... I think. :)
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Maryland
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian

[] Strengths/Weaknesses: Ton's of EC's, grades, mother went there so I dunno if that helped.
[] Why you think you were accepted/wait-listed/denied:
[] Attending? Unfortunately no... even after the $20k scholarship, it's still $30k a year and I'm still waiting on 6 schools. I rec'd full tuition at UMCP, which makes four years at GW about four times as expensive.
[/ul]

anyone who considered gwu safety/match not get a letter today?

My friend and I both didn't, and GWU is a safety. I wouldn't worry about it.

ACCEPTED at Elliot School
Honors/scholarship: None.. kinda hoping financial aid will come later, seeing as how I got 40,000$ from BU.. and no mention of anything (not even a "we can't help you" thing from GW). Also applied to honors but no luck there I guess..Did everyone else get at least a letter form financial aid?

WORK: Part time job as a shift leader at a supermarket since Feb 05
Also worked in my dad's research lab doing plany physiology tasks
ESSAYs: Unorthodox.. but it seems to work. Wrote about a CAP tradition.. of hanging out at Burger King every Thursday night and how my friends and I value that more than any of the other cool stuff we've done. I think it was original and effective.
RECs: Very good, I assume. At least one should show solid determination to learning/international issues.

STATE: Maine

HOOKS: Civil Air Patrol, as I said
ATTENDING: Doubtfully, not with my family's EFC and the amount of money I've received from other schools. Really bummed.. kinda hoping there is some error in not getting any financial aid, but I know it's not likely
