We homeschool, so I am my daughter’s principal. We got her certificate in the mail today. We live in So Cal.

“Feb 8 NMSC notifies Finalists of their status at their home addresses”

I think that could be interpreted either way.

Just got a call from S at school. Principal called him to the office and gave him Finalist certificate. Kansas

Principal and Superintendent presented DD’s certificate to her today. We haven’t received anything in the mail yet at home. Principal’s letter was dated 2/1/11 Iowa

i didn’t receive an NMF rejection letter in january, so i’m assuming that i’m a finalist. my school, however, has not notified me yet and i haven’t received any letters in the mail (i live in northern california). i’m beginning to think my rejection letter was lost in the mail :(

b4nAnnA93, I had the same thoughts regarding my son. What if the rejection letter was lost indeed? But let’s be optimistic and keep fingers crossed. A lot of semifinalists on the board still haven’t received any notification yet.

^Not just a lot, but most. It seems that some schools aren’t very good about letting people know about NMF the next day or so after they get the letters, and it’s still too early for you to have gotten one yourself. Relax! If you have okay grades, no major disciplinary issues, and turned in your application you’re pretty much guaranteed a spot, not to mention the slim odds of a rejection letter getting lost in the mail.

We were anxious, too, but received the school notice (we homeschool) two days ago (the 7th) in Colorado. Personal notice has not yet arrived. I understand they come out of Chicago, which was basically closed down last week due to snow. I did not check the actual postmark, but they don’t mail the school notices until Feb. 1st, and at that time, they were all snowed in.

Best wishes to all in your anxious waiting. I understand - my daughter’s probably-top choice (due to scholarship) college was waiting for the notice to confirm her full-ride scholarship offer, and now they need the actual personal letter to the student - the school one isn’t sufficient. But all the notices are coming coming - just slowed by snow. Hang in there. We’ll all be feeling much better in a few days.

I live 30 miles from NMSC HQ and we got the finalist notification to home just yesterday. We had not heard a word from DD’s school, but got her “personal” letter to home on 2/9.

Hang in there everyone; I know how hard the wait is, but would not be surprised if letters arrive even as late as Saturday, with weather conditions across the country the way they are. I hope for all of you that today is the day!!

(There is another post on the Finalist notification that has more info that may be useful to you as well.)

We’re waiting anxiously too :O. No word from school yet, but that’s not too suprising I guess —1700 students (counselors in over their heads with mid-year reports). I am really hoping that no letter in January is a good sign of a letter in the next day or two…so nerve wracking!

If you posted here, just know that on another thread there are whole bunch who either didn’t get anything yet, or who got the letter to home just a day or two ago, while their schools have not.
DS got the finalist letter to home yeasterday (relief ) while the school still had no word. Checking with other NMSF at his school, about half got letters to home yesterday. I bet most of the rest will get their home letter today.
Something must have happened to the mailings to schools, which went out Feb. 1st. From the other thread this delay seems to have affected most regions, so it may or may not be the weather. They certainly have had such issues in Evanston, Ill, from where they are mailed.

It’s also entirely possible that the schools have the mailing and for whatever reason are sitting on it. D’s school did not inform students of their semi-finalist status until mid-September, and they were notified at the end of August. We got the letter at home yesterday, but no mention at school.

…or they have no clue like my school. They received the mail and were like “whatever, she’ll probably know and we don’t know what to do with it” and so I had to hunt it down (and found out why I didn’t receive the information). -__-

At DS’s school they DO make a sort of big deal of it, and his principal made a fuss over the semi-finalists. So I think something went wrong with the packets mailed to the schools’ principals.

@205mom, the school does make a difference. My former high school makes NO mention of NMSF or NMF. This seems to be policy. :(

" This seems to be policy "

Not a good policy, I’d say, plumazul.
The reality of life is competition. Some educators are horrified by this. If you were sent to a school that eschews completion of any sort, I can accept their avoidance.

But for most schools, who hail athletic or artistic achievement, there is NO EXCUSE for not honoring academic and intellectual excellence.

According to the NMSC Finalist schedule that we received from NMSC and that has been posted online, Corporate scholarship notification is supposed to start this week. If anyone hears, would they please post here? One of the many things I have found most useful about this forum is finding out when notifications start rolling… helps to get an idea of timing, when to keep an extra sharp eye out, etc.

As always, thank you for your help and best wishes to everyone who is waiting to hear on the NMSC scholarships!!

Marie

does anyone know if they also send letters to finalists who don’t win any corporate or nmsc scholarships?

Anybody received Corporate Scholarship letter so far??

Was there something particular you had to do to apply for a corporate scholarship – besides being named a NMF?
