Class of 2011 RD Roster/Thread

Hi,

For everyone who has already decided on applying to Princeton RD in the fall, let’s use this thread as a way to get to know each other. So some of us may be going to school together! ::crosses fingers::

Let’s start a list with everyone’s names and prospective majors. I’ll start:

goodcolleges, Biology.

Come on, who’s applying RD?

goodcolleges, Biology
mikenthemaddog66, Mathematics

But the teacher who is giving my rec said I wouldn't get in :(

goodcolleges, Biology
mikenthemaddog66, Mathematics
oyso, ORFE

I'm an international student though, so I need some luck..

1.goodcolleges, Biology
2.mikenthemaddog66, Mathematics
3.oyso, ORFE
4.yoshi729, Chemistry

1.goodcolleges, Biology
2.mikenthemaddog66, Mathematics
3.oyso, ORFE
4.yoshi729, Chemistry
5.stupak, Psychology

Judging by % admitted on RD, is it almost not worth applying? I'm considering ED, but I am really not sure..

It is exceptionally difficult to be admitted during the RD round. However, unless you're sure that Princeton is for you, I wouldn't recommend applying ED (since you wouldn't want to be locked-in to a school that you'd rather not go to). Besides, you still have a chance during the regular round, so you might as well apply if Princeton interests you--it can't hurt.

2.mikenthemaddog66, Mathematics
3.oyso, ORFE
4.yoshi729, Chemistry
5.stupak, Psychology
6. j07, Spanish/Poli Sci

I know everybody is probably sick of this...but would any/all of ya'll mind looking at my stats and telling me if I should even bother applying to Princeton? They're on the Princeton forum a little ways down from this post...I would really appreciate it.

By the way, I love this idea goodcolleges. Good thread.

Did you post everywhere?

Haha, addme in for RD. ED not worth it for me.

7.Kamikazewave,

Hey Kami, do you have an intend major?
One of Princetons biggest concerns for RD is the fact that they'll take people who also get into Harvard and Yale (SCEAs) so given the choice between, HYP, or should I say PHY, whats your pick?
For me its princeton, I know the area.

Why Princeton over Harvard and Yale? Princeton's looking like my #1 but I'm applying to all three RD (probably a bad decision, I know...) but I'm interested in why everybody has chosen Princeton over the other two.

many will enter, few will win!

good luck, pick Princeton if you get in.

I applied to Yale EA and was deferred, ultimately rejected. I was also rejected from Harvard, but accepted to Princeton (and others).

I'd rate the campuses in this order:

Princeton

Harvard

Yale

Not sure yet, but it'll be in science. Put me down for physics/engineering.

Thing with Princeton is, most of the research I've seen paints it in a strategic light. They don't dare compete with Harvard and MIT apparently, because there's a huge dip in acceptance rates in areas frequented by HYM. Just my 2 cents.

I'll have to visit Princeton to see. But my scores put me smack in the low point of the Princeton curve, so without applying ED I'll most likely not get in. But it's all cool.

6. j07, Spanish/Poli Sci
7.Kamikazewave, physics/engineering
8.mallomarcookie, political science/philosophy/public policy (not sure)

OK...what is the difference between chances EA and ED?
I know the difference between what they MEAN, but how do the 2 affect your chances? My main concern is that I need to be able to compare financial aid packages before committing to anything, so ED is impossible, but maybe EA shows higher demonstrated interest? I know this is the RD thread, but I figure somebody knows.

No school has both EA and ED. Each school treats early applicants differently, but it's safe to say that for most schools applying early (whether they offer EA or ED) confers some advantage (the amount is what varies). You can't compare the chance advantages of EA and ED--it's irrelevant because as I said no school has both.

Ok in terms of interest, ED shows the most interest, than SCEA, than EA (non binding) than RD in that order. Any EA lets you look at financial aid packages. Princeton is known for giving good FA packages, and having little to no debt out of college.

ED provides a substantial advantage, EA a lesser but still significant advantage. See The Early Admissions Game.

It's not just Harvard and MIT; it's also Yale, and to a lesser degree Stanford. In any case, the Tilghman administration has been working to change this for the past few years.

Notice I wrote "HYM"
