Class of 2011- Sound Off!

Haha...yeah I will miss So Cal. The nice sunny weather all year around. I definitely won't be used to snow and the blistering cold.

If you don't mind me asking...where is Vista?

So, Marine88, which airport are you going to come in and out of? LAX or Burbank?

We'll be going out of Burbank.

Probably Ontario or LAX...just depends.

Forgot about Ontario! However, Burbank is closer for us. Smaller, less crowded. No direct flights, but one stop isn't bad.

Hey CA people, we're expecting 5+ inches of snow here in VA,DC, MD on Monday-Wednesday....get your Plebes ready for cold weather..!

The boy is drinking whey shakes as we speak. He'll have at least 1% more bodyfat when he shows up! :D

Just kidding. We live in the desert, so it is cold here, in the winter. There is usually a 40 degree drop between day and night. Plus, we've been sticking him outside in the cold at night in short soccer shorts (they're not really short, he just has legs like a stork) to get him used to it. :D

We lived in Ohio, for a while, so he is used to snow. We also go snow boarding in the moutains (well, they go snow boarding, I go snow falling-usually landing on a lot of my body fat). :D

Nothing like planning ahead! Annapolis can be the coldest place on earth when those winter winds whip off the river. It's funny to see the posts on the parent's list of parents of Mids who've never seen snow before...most of them run outside and make snow angels!

The boy, his brother, and friends used to make snow caves and play, play, play. Come in, throw their stuff in the dryer. While the dryer was drying, they were drinking hot chocolate. This went one ALL day! They once had a Christmas break that lasted a month they had so many snow days.

I don't know if he'll go and make snow angels. He might if ordered too, or if someone bets him.

I look at pictures of Annap. in the winter and it LOOKS like one of the coldest places on earth!

oops!! didn't mean to repeat myself

atrmom,
You have never answered my post. When did plebes chop to class??

USNA69...I posted this a page or two back! Sorry you missed it
Plebes chop in Bancroft and walk every where else EXCEPT on the curved walkways. Plebes only rate straight walkways and they don't rate sitting anywhere on the yard!

The first thing my son and his buddies did immediately after the Herndon climb was to run down the curved walkway and plop themselves on the benches by T-court!

you chop until Herndon! Back in the day (way, way back in the day) Plebes had to chop to class!

Your second quote in no way answers the first quote. When???

marine88
Vista is in San Diego County - 35 miles north of San Diego, 10 min. from Oceanside and Camp Pendleton....and 20 minutes from the beach 24/7!!!!!!!!

Peskemom-

For those of us in CA who do not share the nicer parts of CA (like us desert rats), your post is like salt and lemon juice on a wound. OUCH :D

We have Joshua Trees! Wadda ya' think about that? :D:p

We have the mountains up here in N.Cal! Tahoe is only an hour and a half away! Does that count? I grew up in LA County and admit, after 25 years away from the beach, I still miss it! You can take the kid out of teh beach, but you can't take the beach out of the kid!

You skipped over my Joshua trees. After all, they did make the cover of a U2 album!

Are you saying you prefer the sand, surf, and sun over the sand, and more sand?

:D

Yup - that's pretty much it! The sand and more sand is best, when it heads generally N-S with waves crashing in from the west! However, I know a lot of really great people living amongst the Joshua Tree's which makes them perhaps more attractive!

USNA69-
My dad (USNA 52) and my uncle (USNA 45) both chopped to class as plebes. I don't know when that stopped. Another side note, neither my dad or my uncle could leave at Thanksgiving. The first time Plebes could go home was at Christmas.

Well, MOH2011, that's what I thought you meant. I would much rather have sun, surf, sand (having grown up on the west coast of FL) rather than sand and cactus year round, not to mention the black widows that hang out on them. :D
