I posted in the decisions thread but I kind of felt like we should have our own one. I looked at threads from the class of 2010 and it seems like that year getting in off the waitlist was definitely possible: 40 kids were taken. They were notified by phone with the majority finding out between May 1 and May 20. The prior year, however, only 18 kids were accepted off of the list so it appears that things definitely vary.

And now, a couple of questions: are you planning on accepting a spot on the Haverford College waiting list? What other colleges have you applied to and where does Haverford rank for you in interest level?

For me personally, I am accepting a spot on the list. I've applied to 5 other schools RD (applied to Swarthmore College ED and got rejected): Franklin & Marshall College, Amherst College, Vassar College, University of Pennsylvania, and Ursinus College (accepted to Ursinus, waiting on the others). Haverford is tied for third on my list of schools with Vassar (a "possible") and is behind Penn and Amherst (both "reaches").

I already emailed Haverford to accept my spot on the waiting list. Its my first choice, even over the ivies i applied to. I also applied to Yale, Brown, Cornell, NYU(accepted), BU(accepted), Northeastern(accepted), U of Rochester, Fordham(accepted), Muhlenberg(accepted), RPI(accepted), and U of Vermont(accepted). It stinks that the first school ive heard from that i havent gotten into is my first choice!! At least there is still a chance though...

In the last 4 years, WLs have ranged from 0 to 34 last year. You should write a letter to the adcom expressing why you want to go to HC and why you feel it resonates with you. Don't just tell the adcom you're interested... PROVE IT.

good luck

last year there was a large amount of waitlisters because admissions sort of screwed up(for lack of more information and better term) with their admissions stats.

I got waitlisted too...what does it imply to an international student like me?...Has it anything to do with financial aid?.

Admissions decisions are "need-blind".

However, as there are only 3-4 merit based scholarships for international students for each class, getting WL may not bode well for getting one of these if you happen to later get off the WL. You should e-mail the financial aid office to confirm this, but I'm pretty sure.

sorry :(

hope you'll be able to play cricket somewhere else.

welll..what do i say...thank god i have got into lafayette as well :).(with aid that is)..I guess I will miss my cricket there :(....

I'm also an intl student..got a waitlist...
sigh....i think there are many intl students in the waitlist...
Of course i need aid..
Do i still have hope?

Also waitlisted. I'm not going to stay on it though. I've already gotten into Wellesley and Bryn Mawr. I'm actually a bit suprised that I was even waitlisted, considering I didn't have an interview and never visited the school. I guess it was obvious that I wasn't set on Haverford.

Yup, I've decided not to accept my position on the waitlist after all. I got into Vassar College yesterday which I'd rather go to... best of luck to all waitlisters who accepted spots on the list!

so when do they actually decide on the waitlisters?..I presume after may 1 ..isn't it??

Certainly after May 1, most likely a good bit later, if they pull from the list at all.

Congrats on Vassar... don't forget to have a dinner at the C.I.A. I think you can even take classes there too?

Yes... the middle of May is when WLs start hearing.

Personally, after a certain academic/extracurricular threshold, I think students are more similar than different and the ones who I want to go to HC are those who really resonate with the unique culture of the place. I agree that if you feel "funny" about HC, you would be doing yourself (and HC) a favor by not attending... because it would be an expensive mistake on your part. For those who really want to go to HC and are WL, PM me and we'll work on a letter to the adcom.
