So now that everyone has made their final college decision, who’s going to Bentley? If you’re not, where are you going and why? I’m going to Bentley, but I just wanted to get an idea of who on here is, and if not, why.

My son, Matt, will be a graduate student at Bentely studying financial planning. He might do the joint MS/MBA program depending on how he does.

i'm going to Bentley! I was accepted to Babson, Northeastern, BU, UMass and American U.

I'm planning on double majoring in Marketing and Poli sci with a minor in finance. I'm also planning on doing the 5 year program as well.

It sounds like a lot, but that's just the tentative plans.

I'm going to Bentley too! :) I can't wait to be there. I'm probably going to double major in economics/finance and the liberal arts major and maybe a minor. I might do the 5 year program but I'm not fully sure yet. Oh and I am in the honors program too.

Im goin to Bentley as well. CANT WAIT!!!

ill be doing management as my major and i will do a minor in finance .

Im going to Miami University in Ohio. (accepted to Bentley, Miami, Northeastern, UMass, UVM, and Syracuse)

I wanted a school with options outside of business

still waiting on wake forest, lehigh and villanova

Though Bentley does offer the Liberal Studies Major as well, so you can double major and get both a business and LA degree.

While Bentley does let you double major with liberal arts, business comes first. If you're not sure you want to be hardcore business, Bentley probably isn't the place for you. Good luck at Miami University!

Hmmm interesting...last time I checked Bentley doesn't offer a polysci major...but hey, maybe your special...

Also to the person who is majoring in Management at Bentley...my Management prof at Bentley gave me a list of schools which offer Management programs which are ranked much higher and the schools are actually easier to get into..so my roomates and I actually just transferred out....I'll be blunt with you, their Management program is worthless, don't go there to major in that...

Haha, a polisci major at Bentley? You must be kidding. At international student orientation one kid said he was going to major in history and everyone laughed at him. Good luck. You'll need it.

PS: Even if there was one, you can't. There is no double majoring between subjects like at most places, though you can major in an field as well as "liberal studies", which is basically a joke. Even if you could do two separate majors and a minor, you'd be better set for the 8 year rather than 5 year program. You'll be in there until you have to put future social security payments as equity against student loans. Once again, good luck. You will be incredibly disillusioned with your options.

PPS: To all management majors. Get out while you still can! The program is a joke! You probably won't to take business administration, which Bentley DOES NOT OFFER. You will be stuck as a human resource analyst making $50,000 a year for the rest of your life. SOUNDS GREAT!!!!

Hahah yes when I was at the international orientation and the kid said that the kid's parents looked like "*** MATE?!?"...haha yes, it's cool to make less than your school fees, thats what every parent wants for their children...."hey mom, after taxes and repaying that student loan and car expenses I made $80 this month!!!" ........ Honestly guys, unless you want to do Finance, Accounting or Econ I don't know what the hell possessed you to go to Bentley...too much crack, thats the problem these days

There is such bad information given in these forums sometimes that it is scary.

Here are the majors that you can major in at Bentley:
http://www.bentley.edu/undergraduate/academics/majors.cfm

Bachelor’s degree programs
Accountancy
Accounting Information Systems
Computer Information Systems
Corporate Finance and Accounting
Economics-Finance
Finance
History
Information Design and Corporate Communication
International Studies
Liberal Arts
Management
Managerial Economics
Marketing
Mathematical Sciences
Media and Culture
Philosophy (Business Ethics

Besides being strong in finance, accounting and economics, Bentely is also strong in marketing, mathematical sciences ( however in selected areas), computer information systems. Surprising, I have heard that their philosophy offerings aren't bad, but they are business-ethics oriented.

I don't know anything about their international studies department or other majors such as liberal arts. However a fair review of their offerings ( see http://www.bentley.edu/international-studies/courses_ugrad.cfm) seem to be very impressive. They have a lot of political science offerings and international culture offerings along with strong language offerings.

I do find it interesting that they even have a liberal arts major. One professor told me that they want Bentley to be akin to a business LAC where kids can major in a variety of business areas but have a number of good liberal arts offerings for thier liberal arts requirements. If this is true, I do applaud Bentley for doing this. Most specialized schools, such as stand alone art schools, require liberal arts in name only, The offerings are crap. Thus, if Bentley is trying to beef them up by having an actual major there, this will benefit all students.

I should finally note that Bentley kids can enroll in courses at Brandeis. See Bentley Brandeis Regis Exchange. at http://www.bentley.edu/ugcatalogue/academicservices/bentley_brandeis_regis_exchange.cfm

This certainly beefs up the liberal arts offerings and provides more great opportunities to Bentley students.

Taxguy -- Where you are right in the sense that I was not complete is that Bentley CS and mathematical sciences are good. But only because their econ, accounting, and finance is so good! (mostly applying to the latter). The CS professors are actually geniuses generally with more than 30 years of experience leading the field.

All majors are not equal, however. Management, for example, is a complete joke. So is international studies. If you want to major in that, which there are a lot of people who do, you are MUCH better off going to another school that offers a lot more courses (though, Bentley has some cool short-term study abroads, such as the one that goes to Ghana and Chile). The political science courses are a joke, though. Whoever heard of taking a terrorism class, missing more than half the classes, and then taking a final exam that had no essay questions... and still getting an A? I hadn't, until I took it, and that's how everyone played it. Sad enough that's just the reality of how easy such courses are.

And word to the wise: Even if there ARE hard courses, one of two things will happen. The first is that the entire class collaborates in order to cheat through everything without having to learn the material. The second is that, if they can't do the former, demand for such classes drops entirely. I took a democratization course, one of the most interesting I ever took, but most people in the class found it too difficult. Never seen it offered since.

Just because Bentley offers "all" of those majors doesn't mean that they are worth anything...if I got a Masters degree with 4.0 gpa in Rocket Science and Aeronautical Engineering from a Community College I highly doubt NASA would be knocking at my door anytime soon

Oh, when I said I wanted to double major in marketing and poli sci, as in the poli sci major within the Liberal Studies Major for American Perspectives. Sorry if that didn't come across clear enough. And I'm pretty sure there are current BEntley kids doing the same thing since class of '11 kids got these news letter type brochures after acceptance letters came out, describing current student's majors/minors, where they're interning/working, what extracurriculars they're involved with, etc...

Don't forget Holachica, any courses not offered at Bentley, can be taken at Brandeis. This will open up a lot of options for you.

Holachica -- Great to know that the most faculty friendly and PC of the bunch got their names in the newsletter. These are the same people who will be bragging about their new BMW for weeks on end while they pay kids to do their accounting homework. Let me tell you one thing now... the LSM is ridiculous. It's a free second major for doing absolutely zero extra classes. In fact, Bentley is now in trouble for making it WAY too easy to get, and they're finally making it harder. As for American perspectives, just by taking AP History and AP US Government, you will almost have fulfilled the requirement. Yeah, that makes you super knowledgeable!
