in the words of Axel Rose, "Welcome To The Jungle"
hehehe good luck today guys.
in the words of a random person i ran into at the picnic the day before i started "give 'em hell"

I've seen a lot of conflicting info about this: can we send non-food packages, such as a bigger fan, swim goggles etc.? Or are they only receiving letters during indoc?

I would only send letters during indoc and lots of them from lots of different people. Have packages with bigger fans ready to be there the day after indoc. Priority usually manages a 3/4 day package but if you are closer maybe 2. You can also use ups, and they will give them notification in their box, sometimes this is cheaper for the big packages. I am not sure if they would get the fan during indoc, I always heard best not to send packages during, and not to send different looking letters (colors/scented). Could be others could advise better though..?? Things are a little different with every indoc I think.

Yes, during Indoc send only plain envelopes with letters! You can put in newspaper clippings, pictures, etc., but don't do ANYTHING odd that will call attention to your Plebe!!! Also, make sure it is addressed CORRECTLY! The DI's will IT them for an incorrectly addressed envelope if they see it.

I also wouldn't send any packages until Indoc is over. Go ahead and get it ready to go, but if they get it before Indoc is over, they will probably have entire contents confiscated. Any food items will be taken by the DI's and shared with all the Plebes at the DI's/CO's discretion. So I would wait.

Here's what I remember sending in the 1st package (my daughter was able to visit with her aunt after church services for a few minutes each Sunday and got word to me what she needed)

1) their favorite candy as long as it's not chocolate (gummy bears work!),
2) those little packets of flavoring for the water bottles (they get sick of the taste of the water real quick - they even have Propel ones now, but my daughter likes the Walmart brand just as well as the Crystal Light, etc.),
3) energy bars like Marathon bars,
4) POWER STRIP (they have a lot of electronic stuff after they get their computers, printers, cell phones, fans x2 or 3 plebes in each room - and there are not a lot of outlets!),
5) gel inserts for their shoes.

I can't remember any more. Once she got her phone, she called and requested stuff as she realized she needed it.

MrsTweedy (LOL Love the name...) The kids will be able to go to the ship's store sometime to purchase incidentals if I recall. Some kids bought fans there. I'm wanting to say that they were like 12 bucks? So your kid might end up with two by the time this is over. They won't be allowed to buy food items. Must be scary to the check-out lady watching them breeze by the cans of soups & candy bars. I'd fear mutiny if I were her. :)
