Class of 2012: Are you going to your 1st choice college?

This is simply out of curiosity. I was just thinking that out of all my close friends, only 1 or 2 are actually going to their "dream school." Not to say that people are unhappy with where they're going, but it was just different from what they planned due to finances/rejections/etc. So are you going to what was your top choice?

Depends. Am I going to the school I applied to as a “dream school” in terms of being the biggest stretch for me to get into? No. That was Wake Forest, and I was waitlisted than rejected. I can’t say I was all that disappointed because Wake wasn’t actually my top choice, just my most difficult.

Am I going to the college I like the best after reviewing every option, including Wake and other harder to get into schools? Yes. Appalachian State is a dream come true for me, I love the school.

I’m not a huge fan of the idea of a “dream school,” if only because the admissions process has become so unpredictable. But yes, I am attending a school that always had a special allure to me. Weirdly enough, of the reach schools I applied to, the ones I got into were the ones where I thought I would fit in best. It all worked out, at least in my case.

Yes! I’ve been wanting to go to my school since 10th grade and feel so incredibly thrilled and lucky  but I think I would be very happy anywhere; I liked all the schools I applied to very very much (which is why I applied obviously) and could see myself at all of them. So it was kinda hard but I had to say yes to my “dream school”, especially considering they gave me a great FA package!

I had a list of 5 colleges that were all, collectively, my ‘first choices,’ so it wasn’t until after I received my responses that I knew what the ranking was. I was accepted to 2 of my top 5, and I’m very pleased and really excited to be going where I am.

Having a first choice before you know where you’re in just seems like setting yourself up for disappointment.

Like several others, I do not believe in the idea of a “dream school” or “absolute first choice”. Still, would I say if that I am going to the best option for my personality? Yes, but I believe that I would have been happy anywhere depending on the circumstances.
